City Safari

Along with the shoulder-sweater-knot, the shirt-over-jumper seems to have become one of this season’s favourite layering tricks. You just need to check out Isabel Marant Aw 14 to know why….

I aired my love for the humble black polo neck a while ago, so it probably comes as no surprise that I’ve been reaching for this winter staple on a daily basis recently. And adding a shirt and belt over the top adds a little something extra to an otherwise all black look. That’s not to say I’m not a fan of all-black ensembles. Far from it. Me and Wednesday Adams have a shared affinity fort that one…. But the black polo can sometimes run the risk of either looking quite severe or quite Roger Moore circa Live and Let Die, neither of which is a look I’m super keen on emulating. Adding the khaki green feels warmer, softer and generally more autumnal which I’m definitely all for right now.

And there’s no denying the safari undertones of a khaki shirt with cargo pockets. I may not be in the bush, but there’s still room for a bit of camoflauge in the urban jungle. Not that I’d go as far as describing a quieter-than-quiet London mews as such… Still, we did find a four-legged friend while out and about, does that count?
