The Mixed Media Artist: Art Tips, Tricks, Secrets and Dreams from Over 40 Amazing Artists

First of all... it feels so surreal to even be WRITING this post! It's like,
FOR
REAL
now! Bit by bit, little by little, I'm coming into a more public place as an artist, and I'm SO excited!
One of the reasons for that, is because I've been PUBLISHED! Not only have I been published, I'm in a book with over
40.
Four.
Zero.
Forty artists.
Last year Seth Apter asked me to contribute to his book. You may remember me introducing Seth to you in 2009, when Josh and I took part in his DisCO project. Since that time, I have participated in Seth's THE PULSE on his blog, which is where the idea for this book and it's predecessor, The Pulse of Mixed Media: Secrets and Passions of 100 Artists Revealed came from.

Today, it's MY DAY on Seth Apter's blog! Head over there, and see more of what I created for his book, and be sure to read more about the other 30 artists he's sharing this month! (click MY DAY to see Seth's post about me, or click the image below to see ALL the 30/30 posts!) If you're here FROM Seth's blog, WELCOME!! I hope you stay, and we get to be friends!
Sooooo... I am still pinching myself! I'm published in a book about ART, and there are some AMAZING artists in there!! I am so thankful that Seth asked me to be a part of it, and blessed to be counted in their numbers. Here are a few snippets of the two pieces that I created for the book.

Close up/Detail of 'Open Book'
As part of the 30/30 project, Seth shares on HIS BLOG, how he met each of us, and what about our artwork inspires him. I imagine reading that last bit will be a lot like a movie start watching themselves on the screen. Kinda cool, kinda out of body, and a bit strange all at once.

Close up/Detail of 'Lost'
For part of our contribution, we were asked to create two pieces based on two prompts we chose from some ideas he gave us. I chose "The Face I Show the World" for one of my pieces, and "Childhood Memories" as my second. For the new readers here, and those of you that might not remember, I love details. In just about everything I create, I like to add little details. When I made the White Rabbit, I set his pocket watch to just after the "official" tea time... and I used pages from my Alice in Wonderland book that had the White Rabbit in them as part of the piece. When I created my Poppy Frame piece, I used dictionary pages that had the word poppy on them. My work for Seth's book was no exception! I used dictionary bits with the definitions of things I consider myself to be... My piece is titled 'Open Book'. I used a lot of symbolism to express that I am an open book, and yet, if you take the time to look closer, you can see that I am other things that people don't always notice...things like tender, devoted, loyal, sympathetic... (you can click on the image below to view it more closely)

A closer look... from my piece 'Open Book'
I really enjoyed working on the pieces that were used in Seth's book! I even got to MEET him this summer! I got to have him sign my 'Open Book' piece, and he signed Josh and my DisCo piece from our very first encounter with Seth. I was grateful that he was willing to roll with the punches when our meet up ended up including my grand baby and Josh tagged along! Welcome to my life, Seth!! Hope you like CRAZY!
