Dressing for fashion week on a budget // NYFW

This skirt and top cost me about $14 each. Yes… 14. (edit: just found out its about 16. Um, still a bargain!). While I would have loved to be decked out in some sort of boho/rocker/gypsy “penny lane” hybrid look, I didn’t want to spend more than I needed, yet felt like I had nothing to wear (says every girl, always..). Well , right before NYFW I started selling almost everything from my closet so I had little to choose from. I figured the best way to create a great NYFW look without spending too much would be to get an affordable look and mix it up with classic, vintage, thrifted or statement pieces. I’ve always thought it was important to invest in two or three classic statement pieces especially if you know they will last you a lifetime and go with almost everything you wear (like a good Chanel). It can make the difference in helping make a $14 top look a whole lot more interesting. What do you think? How would you dress for Fashion Week on a budget?
