One Kings Lane // Pouf-a-Palooza

(Welcome to Little Nostalgia's brand new corner o' the Internet! I'm still putting the finishing touches on the design (and adding stuff to the sidebar), so let me know if you see anything wonky or if you weren't redirected here properly. My technology guru husband can work his magic on any weird stuff. I hope you enjoy the new look!)

Rarely am I so excited for it to be Monday, but this is a special case. Last week I got an email from One Kings Lane (!!!) asking me if I wanted to be part of their summer Pouf-a-Palooza campaign and design a room around one of their many adorable poufs.

YES. Yes, I do. Pouf me!

They gave me total creative freedom, which caused another round of giddy hand-clapping on my end. It was cool enough to be asked, but telling me that I ALSO get to do whatever I want is like getting a pound of free chocolate thrown in. Normally I have restrictions when I work–a client’s color preferences, room size, whatever–so this was a treat. It will not surprise you that I went with gray:

pouf // sofa // coffee table // side table // mirror // art // sconce // rug

My favorite thing about adding poufs to a room is the flexible seating they offer. You can have them out all the time for comfy lounging, or you can stash them under a table until company drops by. Even when they’re “away,” they add a little wink of color or pattern to the space.

As for the room I whipped up here, I started with the poufs since they’re the stars of the show, but the next thing I chose was the artwork. That might seem like an unusual way to go (I think a lot of people would go the sofa route next) but I wanted to make sure I had my color palette squared away before I got into the nitty gritty. Having a handful of blues and neutrals to choose from made finding everything else a lot easier. Work smarter not harder, am I right?

The other thing I focused on (aside from the poufs! they’re so cute!) was mixing shapes to add another layer of interest. The poufs, sofa, and coffee table are very linear and simple, while the rug pattern, side table, and mirror are all round and curvy. Having a little juxtaposition will give you plenty to look at when you don’t want to add a bunch of other colors.

Do you have any poufs at your house? Who else still can’t get enough gray? What’s your favorite thing in this look? And do you get the One Kings Lane emails? If you don’t, come join the party.
