No Shopping Challenge: An Update

You might recall that I’m a masochist and decided to do this to myself:

Since my closet was filling up and I didn’t really NEED anything new, I started a self-imposed spending freeze on clothes, shoes, and accessories until the New Year. If you don’t feel like doing the math, I’ll just tell you that October 1st to January 1st is 92 days–which felt like an eternity when I was sitting there on the first day of the fun, but now that we’re into November it’s actually not SO bad. I think it helps that I’ve been busy with craft show and blog-related stuff (and we just figured out some more DIY plans for Casa Ronchetti, holla!), so it’s not like I’m left with all this spare time to drool over boots and tote bags.

Some things I’ve noticed now that we’re a month into the party:

— My yellow cardigan has a couple of mystery holes in it, I assume because I’m wearing it to rags.

— Also not looking so hot are the love of my shoe life, my brown boots.

— I can make an entire outfit out of clothes that have paint on them!

— Now that I’m forced to mix and match again, there are a couple of wardrobe holes that I didn’t notice until now.

Actually, let’s break those down. It’s easy to be all “La de dah!” if you can shop whenever you need something, but now that I’m TRAPPED I realize there are some basics I don’t have.

jeans // earrings // bracelet // watch // clutch

I work from home so my life is pretty casual, but there are times that I need to wear Real Lady Clothes and that’s when the trouble starts. The catalyst for this was a networking event I went to a couple of weeks ago. I eventually did find something that was creative, yet professional, but only after I tried on 67 other outfits. That’s a pretty good clue that I’m lacking some stuff.

So! Jeans that aren’t the skinny variety are first on the list. I had a pair that shrank last year and I kept forgetting to replace them, so here we are. I also need some larger stud earrings. I have several simple pairs that are perfect for everyday, but I like bigger jewelry when I dress up. And while we’re on bling island, I also need a nicer watch and a sparkly bracelet or two–because I straight-up don’t have either of those right now. Finally, a brown clutch would be great because right now I’m chained to wearing things that coordinate with my black one. Variety is the spice of life, y’all. I can’t wait until my birthday/Christmas/January.

How’s the Challenge going for you? Have you rediscovered anything in your closet? Noticing any wardrobe holes?
