Modern Christmas Decor

I have to tell you a secret: we skipped the Christmas tree again! You might remember me writing about that last year, and how I threw in the towel after one too many fake needles fell off and wormed its way into the carpet. I liked the Tree-Free Zone so much that I’m just sticking with it. Maybe I’ll change my tune if we host something next year, and I’ll definitely put one up when we have a little Ronchetti running around, but for now this is the best of both worlds. The house is still festive and it was half the work. Come seeeeeeeee:

This is what I call the “main shelf” in the built-ins downstairs. It’s right above the TV and is where everybody’s eyeballs go when they enter the room. Before I even started pulling stuff out of the crawl space, I knew I wanted to stick with the modern turquoise and red theme again this year. We have a lot of blue around the house anyway, so sprinkling in some red and sparkles seemed like the obvious thing to do.

If you’re ever at a loss for additional holiday decorations, use a flat ornament as insta-artwork. I tried to get that one inside the frame but it was a little too thick, so I just stuck it to the glass with some duct tape. #lifehack

Moving upstairs, here’s a quick shot from Monday’s post about the new snowflake wall hanging. Still FESTIVE!

That little bar by the front door is actually in the dining room. (One thing I wish we had in this house was an actual entryway, but whatev. This also works.) Because this area is so front and center when people come over, I added a lot of little details, like the pom-pom trim, a few ornaments and pine cones, and some glittery ribbon around the basket.

I also got the pom-pom trim in turquoise and thought it would make a mighty fine vase filler for my faux hydrangeas.

Speaking of filling things with other things, how have I never thought to put ornaments inside that glass lamp before?! Duh, self.

Over in the kitchen, I added a bit o’ cheer to the table. The placemat is part of my shop’s holiday collection, and the table runner is actually a big piece of felt I found in the remnant bin. (I have a ton of it left, too.)

Mr. Sparkle Antlers is from Target. He’s so jaunty.

And hey, I can count this plant as a mini tree! It’s fake, just like my Christmas tree of choice, but its leaves won’t fall into the carpet until I want to light it on fire. Everybody wins!

How did you decorate this year? Anybody else anti-tree? Who likes a non-traditional color scheme? What’s your favorite hack for making holiday decor easy?
