My Top Three Essential Oils

Well there I am, all smiley and happy, laying in a bed of super itchy grass. I guess I would say that I am a generally happy person, overall my life is great. I know I am a lot more blessed than a lot of other folks, and for that I am grateful. But I decided that this is the year for honesty, and opening up to new truths in my life, and really living those truths instead of hiding from them. No one is sunshine and rainbows all the time. Everyone has their stuff. Their dark and yucky raincloud sort of stuff. I was talking with a friend a few days ago about my rainclouds, and of course anxiety came up. Now, I don't have the sort of anxiety that prevents me from doing the things that I want do, or seriously affecting my life decisions, or anything like that. I have the type that follows you around and nags you all day in a voice that sounds suspiciously like your own, it's never enough to really stop you, but by the end of the day you sure are annoyed. I decided I needed to take action against that little bastard. Here's what I did.
Oils Oils Oils. Where do I start? So, I'm not here to push anything on you. I have seen a million and one pushy doTerra wellness advocates out there who are all about sales, sales, sales. Honestly, I became a wellness advocate to get a discount for myself. I know plenty of people who make a ton of money from doTerra, and that is great for them. But, I started using doTerra oils because I got a recommendation from a friend to try one of their anxiety blends. As you probably know if you follow along on instagram, I have been met with some health challenges the past few months. While I know it is all part of my journey, and I am trying to take things as they come, my anxiety has been through the roof. Listen, it's about to get real. I went to my doctor, and she had me take an anxiety survey, she told me I scored high enough in all areas to be labeled with generalized anxiety disorder...I was like, "yeah lady, I could've told you that." She wrote me a prescription for zoloft, but I was really scared to take it. I heard terrible things about it, and try to avoid drugs at all costs if a natural solution is out there. I started doing some research online, and talking with friends, and decided to give doTerra a try. I ordered a bottle of Balance, and a bottle of Serenity. They arrived on my door a few days later, and as soon as I opened them I thought, "wow, these smell really, really good." Like, much better than any oil I have ever used. I figured if nothing else I would smell lovely like lavender and happiness for a few weeks.
Then something happened, it wasn't miraculous, like I put this oil on and suddenly my anxiety vanished, but something did happen. I put one drop of Balance, and one drop of Serenity on the bottoms of my feet, and sat down on my yoga mat to do my nightly yoga ritual, after a few breaths I felt like a little bit of weight had been lifted, and I was really breathing more deeply. I actually felt different. I did the same thing the next morning, and noticed that I felt more calm and focused throughout my work day ( when you work with 12 autistic children calmness is a rarity ) I became hooked. I now use both oils daily, and they literally saved me from zoloft.
I decided to look further into doTerra and join a team, and become a rep to get the discount and the free oils and yada yada yada. I ordered a family physicians kit, and a few other random oils, to get me started. So today, I wanted to share my top three favorite oils and oil blends with you, just in case any of you are going through some of the same struggles.
Ahhhh, Serenity, where do I begin? It smells like lavender and everything that good that has ever happened in the history of the world, squeezed into one 15 ml bottle. I use a drop or two on the inside of my wrists, and back of my neck in the morning before I leave for work, carry it in my purse in case I need it mid-day, and then do the same routine, plus a drop on the bottoms of my feet at bedtime. I will also diffuse it in my bedroom at night sometimes as well. It can help with:
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Sleeplessness
  • Tension headaches

I have found that it really does calm me down, but not so much that I'm drowsy or sleepy.

Balance is like the really supportive best friend to Serenity. I almost always use them together, and found that I am more calm and focused when I mix the two. I apply Balance in the same way that I apply Serenity, and I apply them neat, as both are already mixed with fractionated coconut oil. I have found that Balance, when I do use it by itself, really helps me with over-worrying and over-thinking, two things I do on the reg. Brb, I think I left my straightener on and my whole house is going to burn down and everything is horrible! Just kidding, but the struggle is real. Are you a worrier? I swear if everything is going right, I can make up something to worry about. Plus, it has frankincense listed as one of the ingredients, which is one of my other favorite oils, but, I think that guy needs his own post. Anyway, this helps, like a lot. It can help some other things, too:
  • Emotional blocks
  • Negative thought patterns
  • Feelings of anger
  • Tension
  • Anxious tummy

On Guard, I use this for everything. I have gone through three bottles in two months, that's a lot of oil. It has antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, as well as immune support. Here's how I use it in my daily routine. Most importantly, I oil pull with it. This is a ritual for me. I have started to try and view all of my mundane daily activities ( doing my hair, shaving my legs, brushing my teeth ) as an act of self-care and self-love. I want to take care of my body, it's the only one I've got. Every morning I oil pull, with some coconut oil, for 20 minutes. Everyone should oil pull. If you don't know what oil pulling is ( shame shame I know your name ) find out here. That is the best explanation I was able to find on the internet. I add two drops of On Guard to about a tablespoon of coconut oil, then go about my morning routine. Not only does it detoxify, and boost your immune system, On Guard contains clove, which strengthens teeth and rebuilds enamel. Handy, huh? I also put a few drops of this into my all-natural cleaning spray, as well as my floor cleaner to give it an antibacterial boost. I diffuse this in my classroom when a bug is going around, and the kids love the citrusy scent. I definitely do not need to be getting sick on top of everything else right now. I have found that putting my health first eliminates a lot of stress and anxiety for me. Here are a few other good ways to use this oil:
  • Diffuse in a room to eliminate airborne pathogens
  • Dilute and gargle as a mouth rinse
  • Mix with coconut oil for oil pulling
  • Take a few drops in a gel cap for immune support
  • Use to clean and disinfect any hard surface
So anyway, if you would like to purchase any of these oils, you can do so here. But you will be paying full price. Which is honestly not so bad, if you are a first timer just trying it out.
