#FashionMagAwards

On Friday I had the pleasure of attending the FASHION Magazine Awards for World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto. The awards were put in place to celebrate the talent behind the week, like models, designers, stylists, etc. I took my best friend along for the experience, and I think we both agreed that although it was something like we'd never experienced, we had an amazing time. It was time well spent in a room illuminated by candles, and signs and screens sporting the hashtag, #FashionMagAwards. There were rows upon rows of the latest issue of FASHION Magazine featuring Taylor Swift (which I was super glad to get a hold of). Plus, the mojito's were amazing (just saying).

I also had the pleasure of asking FASHION Magazine Editor-in-Chief, Bernadette Morra, a few questions:

How do you think Toronto Fashion Week has evolved since it started? Toronto Fashion Week has grown greatly in terms of the public's awareness. Social media has definitely contributed to this; bloggers have added to the buzz factor that a fashion week needs.
How do you think these awards are going affect the landscape of Fashion Week? FASHION's Toronto Fashion Week Awards have added a new element of excitement to fashion week. It gives the designers, stylists, models and hair and makeup talent a goal to strive for, beyond just the runway show.
Why do you think the awards are important to Fashion Week besides just celebrating the talent behind the week? The awards are important because they create a feeling of community within the local fashion industry and beyond to the consumers who choose to participate by buying tickets to the event. FASHION has also created a marquee wrap-up event for the week.
Which category were you most excited and for? Best Emerging Designer: Haley Elsaesser presented a terrific collection last week. It was fresh and exciting with a young streetwear feel. I loved the planet and lip prints, and use of slogans. She has a great eye for combining colours and prints.
Do you see the awards expanding into a bigger event? We wanted to do something that had never been done before at Toronto Fashion Week, as well as celebrate the talent of all those whose work is on the runways - the models, hair and makeup people, stylists and designers. It will become a regular event.
If there was one word to describe Fashion Week, what would it be? Canadian, meaning it is a local celebration of fashion and beauty talent.
---------------------- Overall, I was incredibly delighted to be invited, and would definitely go back given the chance. I vlogged my night as well, so below you can see a few clips of the event and the awards being given out (apologies for a shaky camera, zoom is not my friend).
