Tulle Pom Poms Using Tulle And Any Other Fabric!

Introducing tulle pom poms, one of the quickest yet most gorgeous ways to make fluffy pom poms that you can use over and over, or hang as a permanent decoration over a crib or in a girly room! And yes, tissue paper pom poms are possibly more lovely but they certainly deteriorate quickly and even transporting them to an event for hanging will likely damage them, soooooo, think tulle!

I am in the hectic midst of preparing for my only daughter's bat mitzvah, so as you can well imagine, serious crafting has begun, including these pom poms, which I'll be attaching to the ends of some long skinny branches I just happened to pick up on the side of the road.

I do love the look of this creme tulle pom pom, made with tulle ribbon, but on account of a lack of colors at my local fabric store, I started to play around with injecting some color using another light weight fabric. The peach fabric that I combined with the tulle in the top photo works, though I'd like to try using some fabric that would be stiffer and not so floppy.

You'll Need:

  • tulle fabric, or tulle ribbon
  • a book, and/or magazine
  • sharp scissors

How To:

I made the creme tulle ribbon pom pom by simply wrapping the tulle around a magazine 30 times. I removed the bunch from the magazine, tied a string around the middle, cut through the loops and fluffed my pom pom, giving it a haircut where necessary! And voila SO simple.

I made the peach and creme pom pom and the pink pom pom by cutting 4" wide lenghts of tulle from tulle yardage, and wrapping those lengths around a medium sized book. I added 2" wide lengths of the peach fabric at the beginning middle and end of the wrapping process to spread the color around the pom pom evenly. Then I followed the steps stated above.

So, need some quick decorations? Add tulle pom poms to your list!

PS: I bought the tulle ribbon at a discount store (Max Stock,Isreal) for about 50 cents a skein, and while I didn't know what I would do with it, I now wish I had a truckload! Such is life, the 2 skeins I picked up about two years ago and the last two I picked up yesterday will just have to do!
