I’m not exactly sure why, but Independence Day is one of my favorite holidays. Maybe it’s the great childhood memories I have, spending time with family and watching fireworks from the school hill by my home in Ferguson, Missouri. Maybe it’s the fact that I married a Marine and on one hot July 4th I got to see him in his uniform for a parade…be still my heart. No matter how you slice it, I’m a sucker for red, white, and blue, and we get our wear out of those Old Navy flag shirts by sporting them all year long.
On a side note, since I last posted, we are celebrating freedom in our own special way…I became a business owner! The amazing ladies at Izzy & Ivy decided it was time to retire, so they sold the business to me and my husband. I’m the pattern end…he’s inventory and shipping. We’re super excited and looking forward to seeing where God takes us on this new adventure.
Anyway, back to the patriotic outfit! When I was in St. Louis for Spring Break earlier this year, I went to Jackman’s Fabrics and picked up some of this sweet Daysail fabric by Bonnie and Camille for Moda. I knew I wanted to make an Evie with it, but I stashed it away. Fast forward to now and I decided to go with a hack of the pattern. But don’t fret! I’ll spill the beans on my modifications. Because I lub you!
I love the original style of this Evie Sun Dress, but I’ve sewn a lot of them, so I like to mix it up every once in a while.
Kidding.
(Not kidding.)
