Say Yeah! Burger

I don’t think there has been a time I haven’t said ‘Yeah!’ to a burger. Taking up residency for the Winter at The Star by Hackney Downs is Yeah! Burger. The brainchild of two Hackney chefs, Adam Creissen and Scott Hopkins, who have honed their skills at Lucky Chip and Death by Burrito over the past thee years to then having a very successful summer of their own with Yeah! Burger at Glastonbury.

I popped down on Saturday lunchtime to try them out and boy did these guys jump right in and win me over with their marvellous greasy, juicy and all round really tasty burgers! I am such a burger lover, favourites include Dirty Burger and Tommi’s and they definitely have competition after this recent visit.

The menu is simple with your standard cheeseburger setting you back just £6, to the more adventurous Hell Yeah! Burger at £10. Other offerings include The Po-Po burger filled with reared pork, slaw, apple and bbq sauce and The Poseidon, line caught tempura pollack, tartare sauce, lemon and salad. If burgers ain’t your thing they also have an awesome selection of hot-dogs. I went for The Cheese – aged beef, american cheese, ketchup, mustard and pickle and Danny had The Yeah! which was more of the same but included the special Yeah! sauce, which isn’t spicy, win, win for me and so delicious.

We teamed our burgers with a portion of fries, chilli cheese fries and possibly the best side -pop rocks chicken. Little pieces of buttermilk and nut fried chicken. These are super addictive, so I say, don’t get too drunk or you’ll be ordering these by the dozen and then taking some home afterwards!

These burgers are not to be missed, so make your way to Hackney now and get your hands on one before the residency ends in December, I know I’ll be back for sure. Plus this Halloween from Thursday 30th October – Saturday 1st November, they have a special menu. Try the Beating Heart Baby £9 – rare beef patty, ox heart, braised fennel, mooli and devilled bone marrow cream or The Pig In The City £8- cider braised pigs cheek, pistachio brawn, quince jelly, crispy pig’s ear and gribiche. Plus Trick or Treat Hell Wings £5 – chicken wings coated in Yeah!’s chilli sauce. More like Yikes! Burger.

Yeah! Burger serves at The Star by Hackney Downs Mon- Fri:6pm-10pm, Saturday: Midday-10pm.
