To the Skies

Traveling- To make a journey, typically of some length or abroad.

The itch to travel has been in my blood since the very beginning. I was always impressed by my friends and their families in high school who were able to afford international travel. Actually, even their coastal US travels gave me a bit of the jellies. I use to sit back in history class and gaze at the empty chair in front of me, knowing that ‘Sam’ was in Hawaii with relatives and I was stuck in second period ignoring a “Battle of the Bulge” lecture. In the back of my mind, I knew that one day I would be able to have those privileges and opportunities, but until then, Battle of the Bulge.

Let’s rewind to the beautiful year of 1991; Seinfeld and Fresh Prince debuted, Nirvana topped the charts, and yours truly was born. My mother was the green age of 23 and my father 25, which I’m going to be honest, blows my mind because that would be the equivalent of obtaining a child for myself NEXT YEAR. Kudos to my folks and all the like out there! Coming into a young family like that can be tough, especially with finances. We weren’t able to travel or do the spectacular things I saw on TV, but it was okay because I knew my mom and dad worked hard to provide a nice home and lifestyle in our small city. I was content and happy growing up, but at the end of the day, I knew travel was out there and that one day I was going to reach out and grab it.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; creating a hobby blog may have been one of the best decisions of my life, because as time went on and I grew my audience, my hobby eventually became my job! I’m now offered trips to host events in Brazil, see fashion shows in France, review hotels in Jamaica, and so on and so forth. The variety of cultures, food, music, people… everything! It all inspires the hell out of me and I’m so grateful for that. I feel like I know exactly who I want to be, and what life I want to live now that I’ve finally had the opportunity to visit these amazing countries. It’s like everyone’s life is a puzzle, and each place you visit you find another piece of yourself. Not like a limb but a piece of your soul I mean.

As I’m sure you’ve already seen, I’ve compiled a gallery of my favorite in-flight window shots over that past year for you guys. Each trip is so different; whether we fly over water, mountains, deserts or plains. These small boxes (most of which are from my insta- @iamgalla) are an everyday reminder to myself that traveling as a whole is a beautiful privilege. I wish I could go back in time and tell my younger self to not worry and to keep dreaming big. For now, I am holding up my glass to the clouds and saluting the bright blue sky. I love my life and I’m so happy I get to travel now, especially with you guys tagging along.
