The Nursery is Underway

1 // 2 // 3 // 4

The time has come. We are finally making headway in the nursery. I can’t even believe it is really happening. There will be a baby living in my house. I am excited like a toddler who receives a brand new baby doll kind of excited (I can feed him, and love him, and play with him…) and terrified like a 20 something year old that knows that baby doll will need things and grow and talk and become a teenager and…. Ah!

When Burley and I were up in the air about whether we wanted to find out the gender of this baby, one of my ANTI gender reveal arguments was that I didn’t want to get distracted by trying to create a perfect nursery, full of perfect things. I really wanted to concentrate on preparing for this new life in more important ways and not get caught up in DIYing the snot out of his room.

Now that we found out that we are having the most perfect and precious little monster boy, I feel stronger than ever that I don’t want to try and make his nursery look perfect for the sake of looking like the most pinnable nursery ever. I want to make it a perfect place for us to get to know each other, experience color, sounds, early mornings, late nights… A place that he and I will both feel at home in. A place that will stimulate his little brain. A place that will be able to grow and morph with him as we start to see his personality form.

So my starting point is a blank canvas. After waiting in line at Target customer service behind the sadly mistaken couple who returned this gorgeous rug, which was then on clearance… I am going with my gut. Painting the walls white. Adding lots of pops of bright color for that little boy. Accenting with lots of natural woods and golds for me. Hanging plants. Creating inviting seating for long nursing sessions. Are you feeling the vibe? I have gathered lots of items from work, the house, around town… They are all sitting in the room waiting to become something. And this week is the week.

Stay tuned…
