Milford Sound

Photography by Moritz Lips.

Milford Sound was probably one of the most impressive places we've seen so far on our road trip around the Southern Island of New Zealand. There is an average rainfall of 7 meters on 180 days a year. It is known as the wettest inhabited place in NZ and one of the wettest in the world. Though the rain is really heavy it is probably more spectacular to go on a day where it is supposed to rain, because it will create thousands of small waterfalls as seen in the picture above.

After a two hour ride from Te Anau we took a boat that would cruise around the Fiorland for another two hours. It was at times even hard to only stand on the deck, because the sea was so rough. This place has to be seen live, but I hope you get an impression from the photos Moritz took during that trip.
