Uniforms: Working Gallery Mom

1. J. Crew chambray (a staple) // 2. Old Navy Rockstar Skinny Jeans in Black // 3. Kate Spade gumdrop studs (mine are from a few seasons ago, similar here) // 4. A classic watch (I wear my grampy’s vintage Gucci almost every day, but I love Daniel Wellington’s line) // 5. A book to tote around (currently: Daily Rituals, How Artists Work) // 6. Leopard loafers from LOFT // 7. My alternative to a diaper bag: Baggu backpacks (I need to keep my hands free and my shoulder’s balanced) // 8. The inevitable baby distractions (Sandra Boynton books and baby beads)

Many moons ago, I had a varied and eclectic style for the gallery. One day I’d wear a short, tight halter dress with awesome black heels. The next, wore-in boyfriend jeans with a gauzy, drapey, tie-front sheer blouse. Thrifted Chanel. H&M bargain bin finds. I played bohemian princess, sleek gallerista, girl-next-door tomboy… the characters knew no end. And now. Here we are. With a baby in one hand and a coffee cup in another, my days of playing characters with my clothing have gone by the wayside. I don’t necessarily mourn their passing (though I do sometimes mourn the pre-partum body that fit into them!), I have suddenly found myself locked into a fashion routine. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing. After reading so much by other bloggers, I’m beginning to embrace a set sense of style that is a little bit classic, a little bit intellectual, and a lot practical.
