How To Sort Your Life Out

Now, the title of this post may be a tad misleading. I am probably not the person to ask about this sort of thing, I live in my childhood room, drink too much apple juice (sorry dentist) and stay on the internet until way past my bedtime. I can probably give you advice about how to get into the fashion industry but whether I've followed it through is a different matter entirely. I still don't have a lot of answers but what I've realised is that I need to really break things down into something manageable. At the start of the year I wrote a list of goals that I'm slowly starting to go through, I thought that by documenting some of my changes and goals it would help me stick to them. Things seem a bit more final when immortalised online, don't they?

I like to wear my Katie Eary Tee c/o Clique, Zaggora leggings & Nike Lunar Hyper Workout trainers. The Adidas towel and water bottle were gifts from their event and have come in pretty handy for looking like I know what I'm doing!

Try to get fit (ish)

After getting a few invites to some fitness events during January (Yoga with Birchbox and a
Hula Hooping lesson with Adidas to be exact), I was starting to take the hint. Kristabel, you need to exercise! Ever since my metabolism changed in the Summer of 2011, I've been quite inconsistent, going to the odd class here and there before prioritising something like burgers instead. I've dabbled in circuits, yoga, Zumba and went running (once) but nothing was really sticking and I felt a serious lack of energy. At the end of January I decided to suck it up and join my local gym properly, the very fact that I've paid in advance means that I'm determined to get my money's worth and I'm happy to get up early if needs be. At the moment I'm mainly attending Zumba classes, but I want to try and get into yoga properly again and tackle some of the resistance machinery in the gym every so often. I'm prone to downloading the latest fitness apps before relegating them to the fourth page never to be seen again. After attending the launch of the Jessie J Wild Alive High Intensity Workout last week, I'm tempted to dabble again as the 15 minute duration sounds rather appealing. I'd also quite like to look like this in my disco pants, thank you very much.

Read something inspirational

Although the Internet is my biggest source of procrastination, sometimes it leads me to the most inspiring posts written by those I've followed for years. Geneva from A Pair And A Spare has created a great series called 'Do What You Love', which really resonates with me. I just find it amazing how people are steering their own multi-faceted careers and it's something I'd quite like for myself, even though I'm a little hesitant to throw myself into it wholeheartedly. It's great to keep finding stories from those who've taken an interesting path to get to where they are, even though things don't always go my way, I do believe they happen for a reason. I'm so glad I got bored and checked my feeds at these specific moments to find these posts:

Snack treats

Ok so buying these snacks from Whole Foods probably didn't help my cause, but after trying them at the Birchbox event (can you spot me attempting to contort myself), I became hooked. At almost £4 a pop they don't come cheap (I've since found them for slightly less online, phew) but they were a nice lesson in restraint and a little more interesting than Ryvita.

My recommendations - White Geranium (very spa-like), English Garden, Cassis, Perfect Linen and Seychelles. I have Orange Grove on my wishlist and will have a Rose candle to giveaway soon!

Improve your environment

Although I'm still at home, I'm trying to make the best of the situation by regularly de-cluttering and allowing myself a few scented treats to make things a bit more cosy. I'd accumulated quite a few candles as presents and was always putting off using them until I'd found my 'Perfect Home' but recently I've just thought there's no point in waiting. Finally, I've become a bit more interested in the brands that everyone's going crazy for and was pleased to be invited to an event at The White Company last week, to learn about their new fragrances. I feel like the last person in the world to use candles and I certainly didn't know about notes, trimming the wick (0.5mm is best) and that blowing them out is a no no (snuffing them with a lid makes them last longer). I never quite understood why people would rave over £60 candles but as with anything, you get what you pay for and these in particular are made in U.K fragrance houses and filled by hand with quality essential oils. The price points here are actually lower than some of the popular brands but no less luxurious looking. I think I'm set for a while now!

Goals

So this month, I would quite like to:
  • Get back into knitting again, now it's March is it seriously ridiculous to post a new scarf tutorial? I want to delve into video this time but am trying to work out the logistics (plus everyone really needs to leave the house).
  • Turn my inspiration into something tangible. My projects have fallen by the wayside and I need to make more time for them.
  • Take some risks, whether it's working out my next travelling stint, taking the plunge and moving out or just putting myself out there more, how will I know until I try?
Who else needs to sort their life out? Let's keep each other motivated, I will update you in due course!
