What I look for in a blog: No need for fancy equpiment! | Blogmas Day Seventeen
The extent to which blogging has moved forward in just a few short years is crazy! It's definitely good crazy but if I were to stumble across the blogosphere now I think I might be too intimidated by all the fancy designs and super high quality photographs to start my own. But I don't want anyone to feel intimidated. This is one of the few areas in life where there's absolutely room for everyone and I'm not convinced that you need any fancy equipment, incredible editing skills or vast html knowledge to blog well.
There are just three things that I look for when I'm looking for new gems to add to my subscription feed:
One.
A layout with black text on a white background in an easy to read font. A perfectly designed layout isn't essential - just ensure your words are readable.
Two.
Pictures are important BUT they don't have to be taken with a fancy camera and professional lighting. Very often your phone will take really decent pictures providing there's enough light. Photographs add so much to a blog, they're eye catching and give the reader a little clue towards what to expect.
Three.
This one is most important. And it's YOU. Your words, your thoughts and your ideas are the most important thing. If you have something to say or want to share, please do. It doesn't matter if you don't think you're the best at spelling, grammar or constructing sentences. It's okay. If you're particularly worried you can always write in word first, run the spell check and then copy and paste. If you want to write, you must write! It's wonderful to share things and you might just end up inspiring someone, or connecting with someone who totally gets you that you may never otherwise have crossed paths with.
