ONEZ TO VISIT: Serpentine Gallery

Here at Motel we are love a good GIF, we just cannot get enough of them, and love scrolling through Tumblr to find the best ones. We were super excited when we heard about this event in London playing praise to our favourite flashing images, THE GIF!!!

A date in the art calendar is nearly upon us, when Frieze Art Fair takes over the Serpentine Gallery for a week long event.

This year the gallery presents its theme of ‘extinction’ with their ‘Extinction Marathon.’ Artists, writers, scientists, film-makers, choreographers, theorists and musicians explore the complex and timely topic of extinction through talks, conversations, performances and screenings. A diverse series of exhibitions will showcase some of the coolest and groundbreaking ideas of this years chosen theme.

Lucky for us, the gallery have teamed up with GIF gallery 15 Folds for an open call-out to have your ’extinction’-themed glitch-art exhibited at the marathon, and we can’t wait!

“On the internet everything lasts forever”, explained 15 Folds’ Margot Bowman, “GIFs are a part of this promise by bucking the conventions of beginning, middle and end and breaking the standard rules of time with their infinite loop”.

Judged by Serpentine co-director, Hans Ulrich Obrist and 15 Folds, 15 GIFs will appear at the 15 Folds gallery during the Marathon.
