Iconic: 30 Years of Guess

Guess was among the first fashion brands I coveted, at the tender age of very young. I remember at one point all I had was a plastic Guess pin (my schoolmates seemed to have practically whole wardrobes of the stuff) ... I put that pin on a white T-shirt and pretended it was “the real thing.” So I was thrilled to be asked to help commemorate their 30 year anniversary, and I loved taking a look back at the archives of strong, edgy Guess women—each brought a different kind of sex appeal that seemed to speak to the era, with the clothing always carrying through iconic elements—the polka dot, the cigarette jean, the jean jacket borrowed from the boys. Every one of these elements are staples for me today—especially the denim silhouettes. And if only I had Claudia’s figure, the bustier ... I’m sure I was obsessing over that back in 6th grade too—and now I’m obsessing over how she looks so good 30 years later—seriously—check out the video footage for the new campaign. 1. Eva Vintage Floral Jean 2. Claudia Corset 3. Charlotte Long-Sleeve Shirt To celebrate the anniversary, Guess launched a capsule collection featuring a great remixed floral jean, “the” classic bustier, and a crisp white shirt ... among other archive-inspired pieces. It’s a refreshing reminder that some icons (like Claudia) don’t need to change.
