Review: Sigma’s 3DHD Kabuki Brush (and comparison with the F80 Kabuki Brush)

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know that the F80 Kabuki Brush by Sigma Beauty is my favorite brush to apply my foundation with. I’ve been using it for years and I’ve repurchased it twice so far. It’s made to apply liquids, creams and powders, but I personally only use it to apply liquid foundation. It’s super soft and easily buffs in my foundation, giving me a really nice, ‘flawless’ finish: no weird stripes or patches. I’ve never had any issues with loose bristles either.

Sigma has recently come out with a new version of it, called the 3DHD Kabuki Brush and being the long-time fan that I am, I purchased it to see if this upgrade is as good (or better) than the F80. And after a couple of weeks of daily use, I can honestly say that this brush is BETTER than the F80! Yep, I said it!

So above is the NEW 3DHD Kabuki Brush. As you can see it has somewhat of a weird shape. It has two flat sides. According to Sigma it was designed this way in order to reach all areas of the face evenly on every curve, crease and angle. Below is the exact description:

*Ridge: The functional ridge at the top of the brush has the perfect angle to apply liquid, cream or powder products reaching every curve, crease and angle.
*Double wedge flat surface: Allows application of liquid, cream or powder products on flat or slightly curved areas of the face in two simple steps. First, apply product using one side of the wedge, then use the second (clean) side of the brush to smooth the surface and eliminate any streaks.
*Point: The sharp point of the brush can be used for highly precise application of cream, liquid and powder products. The point allows products to be perfectly applied in the under eye area and around the mouth.
*Dimensions and density of fibers: The dimensions of the brush head were developed to provide fast product application, while the density of the fibers allow for buffing products onto the skin. The fine fibers allow for coverage of skin pores.

And in case you don’t know how the classic F80 Kabuki Brush like, here’s a picture:

Both of these brushes have the following in common:

* Dense, super soft bristles and firm handles.
* Easy to blend your foundation to avoid brush strokes, giving an airbrushed finish
* Multi-functional; you can use both for powder, liquid or cream products
* Very easy and quick to use, it doesn’t take long to apply your makeup (ideal!)

But here the biggest difference though! The ridges of the 3DHD Kabuki Brush are PERFECT for hard-to-reach areas (around your nose, in between your eyebrows, under your eyes etc). So not only are you getting maximum coverage, you can ALL of your face too. With this brush you will be able to use it on all areas of the face (besides your eyelids, of course) and it will cover every curve, crease and angle.

The 3DHD brush is definitely an upgrade of the F80, no doubt about it. It’s not a gimmick or trick to make more sales: this brush makes your makeup application BETTER! If you’re going for a ‘perfect’ makeup look (who isn’t, right?), put aside your old brush and try this one!

Below are more detailed pictures and information on where to purchased the brush and its price.

 Where to buy:
The 3DHD Kabuki Brush is available in black, pink or white (I recommend getting it in pink, because it’s gorgeous, as you can see from my pictures, and it really stands out!) It retails for $24. Click here to find it on the website. Also worth mentioning: Sigma invented this brush, there’s nothing like it in stores right now. Pretty cool!
