TAG: Most Used Makeup Items!

I’ve been watching so many movies lately and working so hard, I really kind of forgot to think about what beauty items to share because I’ve felt altogether unglamorous. But that doesn’t mean I don’t swoon over all the pretties on Instagram and look at the latest releases. As I’ve held back on makeup purchases for a while, seeing as I have a super cute niece to spoil for Christmas and friends that I need to give thanks for – I’ve been shopping my stash.

In that spirit, I was inspired by one of my favourite beauty blogs – where Candice from the Makeup Box shared her most used items on her Facebook with a range of items, a range of brands and colours and it made me wonder just what my most used items were. When you have a collection as.. excessive as I do (if only I was a makeup artist and not a sys admin slash blogger) well, it takes even longer to see dips in a product, or the end of a jar. But these products do show that I have my favourites and my go-tos.

A few notes on each –

  • This Revlon primer is just beautiful. It doesn’t have that ‘sit atop the skin’ feeling that a silicone based primer does, it blends beautifully with any foundation or BB cream I choose. That being said, I also owe it to the Makeup Box’s instagram for giving me the inspiration to mix the primer with foundation, and applying it one. Its changed my whole routine, and application!
  • Since I tried a glossy stain from L’Oreal; I saved some pennies and had to indulge in the original. The YSL Pur Couture glossy stain (this one is #12 – Pink in Paris) and its just the most luxurious and smooth application. Its almost like a liquid gel but with the smoothness of a cream and this shade is a vibrant pink.
  • My best mascara combo is Maybelline’s One by One mascara and Covergirl’s Clump Crusher. I like using the CC as the first layer, and then 2 coats of the One by One as it gives my lashes some more drama and a touch of a curl. (Everyone needs a good mascara combo)
  • Two favourite lip products for everyday were Honey and Darling from the Kissable Balm Stain line. Honestly I am surprised Darling was there, but its the most effortless shade of purple, I love it so much! Honey is also one of those colours that looks different on everyone despite its ‘plain Jane’ pink appearance. Its chameleonic. (I think its a word?!)

  • This blush from Inglot was possibly a discontinued one? It was not with the others.. alone. Discounted. And its a no-fuss natural shade with a little bit of orange to it. But not in that ‘wow I picked the wrong bronzer shade’ way. Promise.
  • As girly as I am, I’m really basic with fragrance. Some Body Shop vanilla oil used to be all I needed. Some Victoria’s Secret mist. But since I discovered the magic of a roller ball (less commitment) Taylor Swift’s perfume in Wonderstruck – wow. I feel like I could totally date Harry Styles. Or something. From research since I suck at just recognising individual scents; Wonderstruck is fruity and floral all at the same time.
  • I’m not great at concealer, I really can’t figure it out. But this Garnier BB cream miracle skin perfector under eye GEM (also a roller ball) is great for the best way to just add some tone to under eye darkness and be the beginner’s version of concealer.
  • Mac Groundwork paintpot is THE business. Its the bomb. Everyone talks about Painterly but.. for an olive complexion such as mine; that is way pale, and comes off as too stark on my eyes. This is the perfect ‘eyelids but better’ nude as a base to any eyeshadow look. LOVE.
