I’m a big believer in the power of blanket forts: to alleviate boredom and to banish grumpy moods; for imaginative play; as a reminder to not grow up too soon (or ever); and because they’re totally awesome and make you happy and who doesn’t love one. Indoors or out, kids or no kids, I think we should all be building more blanket forts.

• Fairy lights and torches
• Clothing pegs and bulldog clips
• Rope or washing-line cord and string
• A hula hoop and/or pine poles if you want to create a more elaborate a-frame fortress (with rope to lash them all together)
• Books or colouring in materials
• A decent supply of snacks and drinks (in juice bottles/sippy cups to avoid spillage)
