Emma-Jane Harbour

Foodie

I don’t write about food here often, but it is a subject that I really, really love! I love going out somewhere nice for a meal, particularly somewhere new where I get to try something for the first time or if there is an element of surprise! Here are a few places in Joburg to try (if you haven’t already!).

1. Cube

We tried Cube tasting kitchen for the first time 2 weeks ago (I know, it took us a while!) and we were blown away at how good it was! It’s probably the most fun you’ll have eating ever! Ten scrumptious plates, each one bursting with diverse, delicious flavours! We loved the variety of food – it felt like we ate everything!

Sure it’s not cheap, but you’re eating TEN courses of gourmet cuisine. It’s R670 per person which includes a tip AND you get to bring your own drinks (they’ll even tell you their wine and bubbly recommendations for the menu).

Where: 17 4th Avenue, Parktown North (booking essential).

2. The Aficionado pop up bar

I had a sneak preview of the Aperetivo menu at The Aficionado pop bar in Sandton last night. It’s R105 for an Italian inspired Aperetivo (a drink plus small plates that come out like canapes – Think italian tapas!).

This menu will be available on Thursdays and Fridays from today between 18:30 – 20:00.

Where: Street level, Radisson Gautrain Building, Cnr Rivonia & West street, Sandton

3. Come wine with us

I went to a CWWU event last month for heritage day at the historic Emoyeni. It’s really a lovely evening if you love good wine and good food. They put a huge emphasis on the wine, partnering with different wine estates at every event.

Their next event in Johannesburg is at the Wine House restaurant at Ten Bompas on the 29th & 30th October. It’s an all white dinner with Durbanville Hills wines. I have no doubt the food will be delicious too!

Book tickets here.

4. The sheds @ 1Fox

This new market is open Thurs – Sunday every week from 10am – 6pm boasting all our favourite food truck eats like Balkan burgers, Baha Tacos and Paul’s homemade ice cream.

Where: 1 Fox Street, Ferreirasdorp

5. So Yum

This is not a new place at all but it is one of our go-to-regularly restaurants. It’s consistently good and we honestly can’t get enough of those Hong Kong Pears. If you like asian fusion you’ll love this place!

Where: Hyde Park shopping centre

6. The newbies on the block

- Hudsons burger bar is arriving soon in Parkhurst. Taking over the old Squires Loft.

- Escondido, a new tapas and wine bar has just opened at the Post Office centre in Illovo. Sounds delish!

Dinner plans sorted!
