Made In:side // Tape Art Series by Igor Eškinja.

Made In:side is a photography series by Croatian artist Igor Eškinja. These strikingly simple and captivating images depict graphics of cardboard-box sculptures and three-point perspectives projected onto an interior space. I’ve always been a sucker for anamorphic illusions. Add to that the beauty of my all time favourite thin black (and brown, yellow & green) lines approach, and I’m sold!

Eškinja plays with the objects and their shift from two-dimensional to three-dimensional appearance, using simple, inexpensive materials, such as adhesive tape or electric cables “and applies them with extreme precision and mathematical exactitude to the walls and floor of the gallery”. Anal retentive alert! Just sayin’. (Well, it takes one to know one I guess).

The illusion of 3D would appear disjointed, but by placing his camera at the exact point where the illusion occurs, it reveals connections between spaces and objects that may have been of no particular consequence before the picture was taken – kind of like a magic trick. According to the artist, “this approach enables the viewer to participate in the construction of an imaginary volume in an open space, creating a new form of minimalism”. Word.
