Reebok ZQuick Review

The following post is sponsored by FitFluential LLC on behalf of Reebok.

How was your Valentine’s Day/long weekend? We had a blast celebrating. Isaac had a snow day on Friday, which was amazing because we got to hang out together all day. I had to do a little work but it was still a nice Valentine’s Day/birthday gift.

Speaking of gifts, a few weeks ago I was sent a pair of Reebok ZQuick running shoes to test out and review.

I love the Pink Punch color!

These bad boys aren’t just an updated model — they’re a brand new line inspired by hi-performance, Z-Rated tires. The kind used on race cars! Their geometrical sole mimics the tread of high-performance tires for ultimate ground contact — made to deliver control, traction and speed. They’re said to make you “unnaturally quick.”

Obviously, I was excited to try them out and see if they really worked, but with all the snowy weather we’ve been having the past few weeks I haven’t been able to do much running outside. The weather ended up being pretty nice on Isaac’s birthday and I convinced him to go for a run so that I could test out the shoes. Don’t ask me how I convinced him to go for a run at 8AM the morning of his birthday…in February. He must really love me.

Everything went well during the run. The shoes felt extremely comfortable (there’s a little bootie inside the shoe for fit and comfort) and they were so much lighter than the running shoes I’m used to wearing. I definitely felt a little extra pep in my step while running in these shoes and I do think they make it much easier to run faster than a pair of heavy-soled shoes.

The only downside was that by the end of the run I felt a bit of pain on my heels and realized the shoes were rubbing a small blister on each of my heels. I think this has to do with the fact that the back part of the shoes go up higher than most running shoes and my socks were pretty thin.

After a few days the blisters healed and I tried the ZQuick shoes again — this time for a T25 cardio workout. I’m glad I did because the shoes worked great for this workout and allowed me to handle all the different movements (squats, lunges, jacks, speed and agility moves, etc.) easier than my cushioned running shoes. Shaun T actually recommends a cross-training or “minimalist shoe” for T25 and Insanity. The ZQuicks have a light, low profile midsole so they’re perfect.

And… I didn’t get blisters after wearing them for the T25 workout! I guess I just needed to break them in.

I’ll probably stick with my normal running shoes for longer distances because I think I need the extra support and cushioning but I’ll wear the ZQuicks for sprints and HIIT/bootcamp style workouts like T25 and Body Attack. I have an older pair of Reebok RealFlex shoes that I usually wear for these types of workouts so the ZQuicks will be a nice upgrade!
