Grazeful Snacking

This post brought to you by Graze.com. All opinions are 100% mine.

If you’ve been reading for a while you’ll know that I’m a big fan of snacking — always have been, probably always will be. I’ve found that eating 5-6 times day works well for me — breakfast, lunch, dinner and 2-3 small snacks. Most days breakfast holds me over until lunch time so I don’t need a mid-morning snack and sometimes I can go to bed without having an after dinner snack but there’s rarely a day that I skip my mid-afternoon snack.

If I do need a snack in the morning my go-to snack option is usually a piece of fruit and a few nuts or something else pretty light but in the afternoon I look for something more substantial with protein — usually trail mix, Greek yogurt, a healthy protein bar or a smoothie.

Being the snacker that I am, I was intrigued when Graze reached out to me about trying their snack subscription service. I don’t know what it is about subscription services but for one reason or another I’m always drawn to them. I did Birchbox for a while (and I’m thinking about signing back up) and I currently love using Stitch Fix and Fabletics for clothes. I think I like these types of things so much because I love getting snail mail. It’s a fun treat!

Anyhow, I decided to give Graze a try and took advantage of their First Box Free offer.

Like a mentioned, Graze is a subscription service. It was founded in the UK 5 years ago and launched in the US at the beginning of this year. They send you a snack box weekly or bi-monthly and each box has four different snacks. You can choose if you want the box delivered to your home or your work. You also choose between two options — the nibblebox (for maximum variety) or the caloriecounterbox (this option only contains snacks that are no more than 150 calories per serving).

You don’t get to pick out exactly which snack items you’ll receive, but the snacks are tailored based on your preferences. Basically you just look through the snacks on their website (they have over 90 creations) and tell Graze whether you like, love or would like to try the snack. If you don’t want a certain creation because you know you won’t like it, you can simply trash it. Once you’ve trashed something, you won’t ever receive it.

Here’s my first Graze nibblebox.

Olive thought there were some tasty treats for her in the box…

This was her face when she found out it was human food. Not thrilled. Haha. She cracks me up.

My first box had a fun mix of sweet and savory options — the honeycomb flapjack (not a pancake — more like an oat bar), herby bread basket, bananas foster and mango chutney with black pepper dippers.

All of the snacks in this box were pretty tasty. I liked the Herby Bread Basket and the Bananas Foster mix the best and Isaac loved the Honeycomb Flapjack. In our second box, I really liked the Morning Energizer which has a mix of dried cherries, dried pear and raw walnuts. I think overall, the dried fruit and/or nut based snack mixes are my favorite — which makes sense considering I’m pretty much the trail mix queen. I love it!

Additional thoughts:

  • Although the portion sizes seem a little small. They are truly snack-sized, which is a good thing because I (like most people) can get carried away with snacking if I have a whole package of something tasty in front of me. I think the pre-portioned snacks work well and can help keep your snacking in check.
  • Each box provides a good variety of different types of snacks.
  • It would be nice if the containers sealed back up. Once you open a snack package there’s no way to close it back up so if you don’t finish your snack it’s likely to get stale unless you transfer it to a sealed container.
  • Most of the dried fruit snack options seem to be sweetened with juice concentrate rather than sugar, which I prefer.
  • Graze provides a slip with each box giving you ingredient lists and nutrition info for each snack you received. I love transparency so I think this is great.
  • If you have an allergy or dietary preference, it’s really easy to use their rating system to “trash” the items you don’t like or can’t have to make sure you don’t ever receive them.

Overall, I thought it was fun to get the Graze box in the mail and to try the different snack options but I’m not sure I would order a Graze subscription service for myself on a weekly basis. I think it would be a great option for people who work in an office, don’t have time to go shopping and prepare homemade snacks or just want a little variety with their snack options.
