Ramblings from a Tired Mind

Last night we had company. Two other couples with their two children apiece. All told, 12 humans in our house. Can you tell from the mess left behind? ;o) I really think the kitchen cleanup is the worst part of having company. The rest was fantabulous! The moment each family arrived, the children disappeared--I have no idea where--and the adults all had a blast. From every appearance, the kiddos did too. :o)

I've been glutting myself on the Olympics as only I can, and I think I might need to visit Sochi since they are far warmer lately than we are. :oP

The Opening Ceremonies were lovely, and I've been thoroughly enjoying my Olympics watching. I was up by 5:30 this morning (I had to be up for Isaac) and curling was on! Hooray!

It should be noted I never have the TV on during the morning during the school week. No TV before school is simply a house rule. However, all bets are off during the Olympics. ;o)

Ellie has been even more desperate to do "school" than ever now that Isaac is here.

She's really starting to work on her reading. It's rather frightening, actually.

Why is it the only time my girls along best is when they're supposed to be getting ready for bed? Something that should take only 5-10 minutes at most takes almost 30 minutes with lots of parental interruption and redirection.

If I "lose" Ellie, I can typically find her in here.

Much of the rest of the time is spent sometimes getting along, and often bickering with some heated fighting for good measure.

Having had enough Saturday afternoon, I told them they just needed to hug it out. Obviously Bean got much more out of it than Lil. ;o) But, it worked. There was no more fighting for the rest of the day.

The truth is, they really aren't that bad.

No, really.

Jess and I fought so much I'm surprised Mom didn't throw us both out the window. It was really bad. :oS My girls bicker, but really, they love each other, cuddle in a heap of contented kid-ness and in general play together well. It's mostly all I could hope for. :o) And, when it's not, hugging it out is our new solution. ;oP

As for the rest of my random life of late, Holly refused to come inside the other day. I looked out the kitchen window and saw this.

She saw me looking and decided maybe she didn't want to be outside any longer.

In case you can't tell, she's sitting on the outside toy box. Silly dog.

I was making mulligatawny soup the other day and couldn't find my curry powder which led to frustration which led to me cleaning out the spice drawer--we only have a few spices. It's all alphabetized now...

I love my "Life is Good" mugs. I especially love them with homemade hot cocoa. :o)

We've had more ice crystals in the dish soap. How crazy is that?

Lil and a friend decided to fill up my tub with the cardboard blocks. I think they ran out of steam since they had to carry the blocks up the stairs. :oP Bean brought them all back down today.

Silly Finny thought he was going to get to come in the house looking like that. :snort: Apparently the voles and moles are back.

Great.

And, I found the most beautiful purple flowers at TJ's for a song.

We had to go get groceries this morning. Bean was once again utterly stoked she got to push the small grocery cart and Isaac had to ride in the seat. :oP

From there it was off to the vet to pick up Finny's meds. Poor Isaac. He was up at 5:15 this morning, so was beyond ready for a nap by 8:30 this morning. Alas, we had to head to the bus. He got a tiny nap in the car on the way to TJ's, and then on the way home from the vet. I promised him he could have a good nap after lunch, but then, disaster struck. I got a call from the school nurse telling me she had Lil with a broken wire. Crap.

I had managed to get a bottle into Isaac (thank goodness), got a baggie of goldfish for Bean and we were off to get Bitty for an emergency ortho appointment. Oh boy. I had her there by 12:30, she had to eat lunch in the car (bless her heart), and I finally got the kids home by 1:30 where they both had a late lunch and Isaac was practically begging to go down for a nap.

What a day.

I found good homes for both our dining room table and chairs and our china cabinet. The movers arrive tomorrow with GG's. She's moving into her new home up here tomorrow!! :o) I'm SO excited!

We are under a Winter Storm Watch from 6PM Wednesday to 10PM Thursday, with the potential of up to 4" of snow and sleet accumulations. Oh boy.

I love winter. I love snow.

I'm done.

This has been a bleak bleak winter. I'm ready for some sunshine.

I've started planning my gardens.

It's time.
