Shaving Cream

While we were out this morning, I decided Bitty and Bean might enjoy having some shaving cream to play with. There's something so soothing and creamy and just plain fun about shaving cream I figured they'd both really get a kick out of it.

Bean was having none of it. She wanted nothing to do with even touching the cans of shaving cream in the aisle, let alone putting a can in the cart.

"NO!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!! NO! I don't WANT Daddy to shave! NO!!!!"
"Ellie, this isn't for Daddy."
"NO!!!!"
"Ellie, this isn't for Daddy! Listen to me. This is for you and Lily."
*insert look of consternation and confusion*
"You're going to shave my hair off?!?" Utterly aghast.
"No, it's for you and Lily to play with."
"For us to play with? Okay." And she dropped her can into the cart.

This evening Brien asked what the cans of shaving cream were for. We decided to tease Ellie about B shaving and I said, "Oh, Ellie and I got those for you to shave your beard off, right Ellie?"

B joined right in, and before we knew it, Ellie had burst into very miserable tears.

Crap.

I need to remember that about her. She still doesn't get deadpan humor.

Crap.

So, feeling like a heel, I decided we had best get the shaving cream out to play with--to reassure my Bean that it was indeed intended as a plaything and NOT a depilatory...

I decided we could go ahead and kill two birds with one stone and have Bitty practice her spelling words at the same time.

Then, there was nothing but playing.

For a long time.

Ellie made long 'Punzel gloves.

So did Lil.

There was some hand clapping that led to this.

And this.

I'm fairly certain fun was had by all.

They are currently upstairs in the shower with their shaving cream trays and my house smells rather, um, clean.

I think Beanie's pretty convinced the shaving cream was indeed for them and NOT for B.

And, now we know just how serious she is about Daddy NOT shaving his beard...

Sparklies:

1.
This child loves puzzles SO much. She prefers doing them with GG better than anything else, but will do them on her own as well.

2.
Robin found these guys in an Etsy shop and decided she simply had to have them. She sent the link to me (and oh, BTW, the shop has every geek fandom out there and I've pinned more patterns than I have time to make) and asked ever so nicely if I might be persuaded to make it for her.

Well, YEAH!!! I mean, look at them! How easy? How cute? Yup. Totally doing it!

Lil has been begging to learn to cross stitch and embroider and I figured one of those little guys would be the perfect starter project. Last night I gave her a lesson on finding the center of your fabric and the center of your project and counting and such. We talked about making the crosses and skipping and I think I covered all the basics. I stitched a row of have crosses and put her to work coming back across. You forget how intuitive it becomes to simply poke the needle up through the hole and how you can simply look at a row and know how many stitches to make without specifically counting. A group of three is just three, you recognize it.

I don't know if Bitty will love it or not. I hope so. I want her to have the satisfaction and pride that comes from creating something with your own hands. I mean, above and beyond what she already does. This is something different and new to her. There's something almost magical about taking those little X's and a blank piece of cloth and creating an image.
Speaking of magical. How cute is he? :o) I'm estimating each little bear is going to take between two and two and a half hours to create. I'm obviously NOT going to have this finished before Robin's birthday Saturday. :oP

This is why I love having the offudio on the back of the house. How gorgeous is this morning light?

4.
Flowers abound in CW. This was over by the Henry Street parking lot. Are these irises?

5.
HOORAY!!! The Bitsys are blooming!!!!

And, the glads! I love that flower there at the top of the three just starting to open. It's all spirally and fun. :o)

Milestone:
You know, I never had a chance to teach Hannah to cross stitch. :sigh: So many things I never had a chance to teach her...
