St. Peter's Church

So, I decided to take a breather and a break from all the busyness of housework and the frantic-ness that is the close of the school year (a full week next week, four days the following) and swim team and life in general and take a minute to reflect.

My Up band has just buzzed me to let me know I've been sitting on my tukus a bit too long but I don't care. I want a cup of coffee, but it can wait a few minutes.

Last Friday, B and I absconded with GG and drove to New Kent County. There, we showed her St. Peter's Parish Church.
B and I have been there before, and find it endlessly fascinating. I took a tour around the outside, counterclockwise, peeking in all the windows. :oP

This was Martha Washington's church, and where she and George were married. It's quite historic--and older than Westover Church by about 30 years.

Who doesn't love sneaking a peek through a keyhole? ;o)

It's in a very peaceful setting and I thoroughly enjoyed this back garden.

So did Beanie. She said that was a "kid's bench". I'm good with that.

I love the shape of the roof line.

There are such fun details throughout, and I really love the curved bricks that would have had to be specially made for the building.

I focused specifically on the date on this headstone.

This one is rather old as well.

This is the wall along the more shady side of the church.

It's growing ferns!! :o)

I was able to cup my hands and peek inside. Isn't it lovely and bright?

Can anyone tell me why the pews had doors? I truly have no idea and haven't had a chance to research it.

This grave marker is being covered by ground cover. If you embiggen, you should be able to see the seal at the top.

It appears the tower was a later addition.

And, the final photo, the portico.

It's a lovely drive and a delightful church. Last week was my week for visiting old churches. :o)

Sparklies:

1. I'm not the only one Fred likes to seek out for pettings...

At least with B he sat still. I'm rather jealous, actually. :oP

2. Swim practice is going well although I made the executive decision to skip today since it's drizzly and about 65 degrees. My Bean gets in the water to "swim" across the shallow end (with assistance) and then has to sit on the edge of the pool. She complains of being cold when it's 90 degrees. To go today when there's no sun, I fear she would truly turn blue. :oS

3. My girls are currently decked out in their housecoats, because, you know, it's cold. :oP

4. The rain meant I didn't have to water the plants today.

5. No change in my vision since last year. :o)

No milestones.
