What's Been Keeping Me Busy

I used to spend time visiting my internet friends, checking in, seeing how their lives were going. I used to chat with my sister and sometimes with my friends. I used to read and make cards.

Then, I was seduced by an antique lady and all bets were off. I got a quilting book and before I knew it, my creative juices were flowing and would allow no time for anything else. Including cleaning my house...:oS

There is something incredibly fulfilling in taking pieces of fabric you have cut into smaller pieces and putting them together to make bigger pieces that make pictures and designs.

Because my antique girl doesn't have seam allowances marked on her strike plate, and because she doesn't have a 1/4" foot, I had to create a 1/4" guide. I used my seam ruler to measure 1/4" from the needle and laid down a piece of painter's tape--it's not too sticky and shouldn't leave any residue.

Then, because I wasn't satisfied, I decided to add a few more layers. That strip there is about five layers thick and it keeps me from slipping and making mistakes with my seams. Any mistakes are typically made in the cutting and piecing. What can I say? I'm still learning. :oP

I fell in love with the autumn leaf quilt in the Judy Martin book and decided to make it into a table runner. Four leaves and a couple extra strips create a block and I figured three blocks could make a runner.

I finished all the leaves and started playing around just to see what I thought. I liked that star looking pattern up there but decided it detracted from the fact they are leaves. So, I photographed it to maybe make something else in this pattern sometime.

I laid it all out, decided this was how I liked it, and began putting it all together.

My seams were far from perfect (see comments about cutting and putting together) but I don't think it came together too badly.

See?

I'm sure you can also see I continued to finagle and wrangle and change up how the leaves were laid out. I couldn't seem to help myself.

Now I need to add a border, add an additional edge of triangle squares and a backing and edging.

Gee, not much...;o)

This is so much fun, I really can't seem to help myself. B says we now pay a "JA tax". I might be in there a little frequently these days...:oP

Sparklies:

1.
I loved the sky Halloween night. :o)

2.
Discovered this yumminess yesterday. Proof positive I don't spend enough time in the liquor store. ;o) I used it to make some apple cider sangria. If it's a hit, I'll share the recipe. :o)

3. Speaking of "if it's a hit", we're having brunch with our Small Christian Group today and I'm bringing it along.

4. Fall is absolutely stunning here this year! Well, it was until the wind whipped through yesterday and today...I'm unsure what I'll find at CW tomorrow. :oS You can see my fall CW photos on Instagram here. :o)

5. My new hairdo is making me so happy! It's a lovely inverted bob, and it takes barely any time to style and little product compared to my long hair. Yay! :o)
