ManCave

Friday night was a good night – a very good night. I had the fine company of Leanne, Priya and Victoria for deep-fried buffalo wings at Sticky Wings and a chocolate cauldron to dip into at the Urban Chocolatier.

But Friday was also a mixture of sweatiness, stickiness and stress from the horrendous humidity in London that day. I desperately needed a shower when I got through my front door and waiting for me were these goodies from ManCave*.

ManCave is the superb name for a brand of natural grooming products for the dude. Styled to be premium but priced for the mass market, this no-fuss packaged range is cruelty-free, vegan friendly and free of parabens, aluminium or sulphates, catering for growing ethical and health concerns surrounding skincare.

There are an impressive ten products in the ManCave range, which clearly is a sign boys want a little bit more than a bar of soap. These include a Face Wash, a Face Scrub, a Moisturiser, a Conditioning Style Cream, a Shave Gel, a Shave Balm and Shower Gels including a new Lemon & Oak version. Sadly the love of my life has blue eyes, four legs and a grumpy face but there was nothing stopping me from trying a few for myself.

I gave the Lemon & Oak Shower Gel a whirl. It contains a concoction of Lemon Oil, L-Arginine, Bergamot, Vetiver and Sandalwood for a relaxing yet invigorating wash. It’s not just about the cosmetics though – anti-bacterial ingredients Aloe Vera and lemon oil have also been added to cleanse naturally. It’s that lovely, masculine smell which isn’t the least bit overpowering and nice enough for girls to use it, leaving a soft smell lingering on your skin. Fortunately all of the ManCave product scents are surprisingly subtle so no intoxicating odours that’ll sting your nostrils.

I also tried the Caffeine Shampoo, which is from ManCave’s original line-up. The formula uses Panthenol to prevent itchiness, soothe scalp and Caffeine to stimulate roots with Shea Butter and L-Arginine to condition and nourish hair.

Finally my curiosity led me to pick up the Shave Gel. I’ve never used male shaving creams/gels so I was intrigued to see how this would work. I’m used to gels that lather up generously. ManCave’s Shave Gel is more like a balm. It lathers up slightly whilst maintaining a balm-like consistency (if that makes sense). I would say it feels and looks similar to hair conditioner, which is often prescribed as a great alternative product to shave legs with.

In terms of usage, I can’t say I enjoyed it nor did I feel it was effective in achieving a smooth shave on my legs. Clearly this product is made for face shaving with its moisturising ingredients for softer skin though I would have thought this would have crossed over to other parts. Oh well. I’ll be passing this onto my dad whom I’m sure will feedback more favourably.

Fancy surprising your other half with something that isn’t bloody Lynx? Give ManCave a try. I’m sure he will be impressed and you can borrow some too.

ManCave’s prices range from a very reasonable £3.99 to I-can’t-believe-it’s-only £9.50 with the Shower Gel the cheapest and the Moisturiser at the top end. The range is stocked by Sainsbury’s and also available online through Boots, Amazon and Feel Unique.

Speaking of stinging the nostrils, I could NOT get this out of my head while writing this post…
