Acrylic Frame DIY
I racked my brain for days trying to find out what to get Nate for his first Father's Day. I finally broke down and just asked him (I know how lame but desperate times people ;) ). He said that he would like a nice picture of the Savior for our downstairs. Done and done Boo. I knew the exact picture I wanted to get. It was Christ in Red Robe by Minerva Teichert:

For me I have a hard time with religious art. Not the subject matter but the painting style that in my eyes just gives the paintings/artwork more of a traditional feel and that isn't really what Nate and I gravitate towards for our home. I think that Teichert style breathes new life into the religious art world. The colors she used and the watercolor style tend to lean more on the contemporary free flowing side.
Even though I went with what I perceived as being the most contemporary style of religious art I knew that it needed another modern twist. I had been dying to try this DIY for creating an acrylic frame and knew this would be the perfect fit for taking this piece of art over the edge!

To create your own you will need: ~Artwork (I purchased mine here in 14x20) ~Clear Acrylic Sheets x2 (I purchased mine at Lowes in 18x24 if you do need a larger size they will cut them to size for you) ~An Acrylic Frame Kit in Brass or Stainless Steel (I purchased mine through Highland Hardware on etsy) ~Large Nail ~Clamps ~Clamp Wrench ~Ruler ~Sharpie
I followed this DIY to a T and it worked out great! Just make sure that your nail is large enough for your post to fit through it. I made that mistake and had to go back for a larger nail to burn through the plastic. I first bought the 8" which didn't work but the 10" was just right. Here is the finished product:

Now it might seem a little strange to hang the picture behind the door but it actually works for us. The staircase that you can see pictured above goes to our upstairs so whenever we are going up or down the stairs we are able to see it. It is such an awesome reminder when you are leaving for the day.
I will tell you this it was a little more expensive to frame the piece of artwork in this way but I think that it adds so much more interest than a traditional frame. Which is something that we want with this piece of art. We wanted it to catch our eye more because of the subject matter. It is important for us to have our home and lives in harmony with our beliefs and this works for our space.
