Sofia Coppola

My absolute favourite director is without a doubt Sofia Coppola. I love her films, I love her soundtracks and I love her personal style. She really inspires me and I just never get bored with her!

ABOUT SOFIA COPPOLA

Sofia is the daughter of director Francis Ford Coppola and is famously known for her horrible death scene in The Godfather III (which was directed by, of course, her father). Maybe someone remembers that quote from Gilmore Girls? Before going of to college, Rory HAS to watch a Godfather marathon. Or like Lorelai tells her:“…and stock up on Tuesday, the day of all days. Godfather I, II, and III, with extra showings of the Sofia death scene over and over as long as the Mallomars hold out!” Now, I’ve never seen these films (gasp, I know, right?!), but if I have to believe general opinion, her acting was rather terrible. Luckily she’s better at directing and she “gave” us a lot of pretty films for us to look at. In 2004 she won an Oscar for the best script with her film Lost in Translation and with Somewhere she won a Golden Lion in Venice in 2010. Apparently I’m not the only one who thinks she’s really talented ;) She has also directed a few commercials (H&M and Dior) and sometimes ventures into photography. Her husband, Thomas Mars, is the lead singer of the french band Phoenix. With him she has worked on several soundtracks for her films. And lets not forget their two daughters of course, I bet that was a team effort as well ;)
