THE WIFE Guide: Cut Your Own Christmas Tree
Are you sick of paying for over priced trees at your local Christmas tree lot? Ever dream of visiting a Christmas Farm, walking though fields of bushy green noble furs while snapping cute pics of the kids all bundled up? Get Informed: Be sure to call the Christmas Tree Farm you’ll be visiting before you go, as the hours listed are subject to change based on weather and tree availability. Once you confirm their hours and supply, make sure you’ll be able to choose and cut your own tree. Also ask if they take credit cards or take cash only.
Options: There are many different tree varieties depending on where you live. You’ll be used to the many different varieties you get with the pre cut trees that are brought in from Oregon. So get familiar with what your options are at the farm of your choice.
The Farm: Saws should be provided on site to cut down your tree, but if you don’t want to get your hands dirty most farms should be able to cut the trees for you. Farms should also provide wheelbarrows and should wrap your tree and tie it on or in your car for you. Double check as some farms even will deliver the tree right to your front door.
Supplies: Just in case they run out of supplies bring your own rope and bungee cords to ensure a safe drive home. Also a blanket, tarp or plastic sheet to protect the inside or the roof of your car. Don’t forget work gloves to protect your hands and cash to tip whomever helps you.
What To Wear: Check weather in the city of the Farm and be sure layer and dress warm. Farms get chiller in the evenings, but can get warm during the day if you’re in direct sunlight. Wear boots incase of dusty or muddy conditions and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
Extras: Farms should also sell or provide cut branches for greens that can be used to make wreaths and garland. -Taryn Cox for THE WIFE™
