Handmade vacation

There’s something about going on a vacation that makes me want to make a bunch of new things to wear! When we decided to head up to central and northern California to visit my sister and brother in law it made for a perfect opportunity to wear some of my handmade goodies.

The first day we drove up to Fresno and did some relaxing hanging out including hitting the world’s most ridiculous estate sale store.

I made this little navy circle skirt last october for a trip to Austin (but obviously never blogged about it). Its such great basic piece I can’t believe I haven’t made a million more.

The little piece my sister is holding was the only thing that left with me and I can’t wait to make a teeny cake to put on display, or some flowers, or cheese, the possibilities are endless.

The second day of the trip we headed up to Sequoia National Park for a day of adventures. I wore an appropriate knit scout tee from Grainline Studio – I used the swingy back variation of the pattern for a test run of sewing it in a knit fabric.

Its a really comfy make though next time I would skip the swingy back variation because its a little too baggy for my taste. This was my first knit scout but I very quickly sewed a second within the week! I followed all the instructions from Jen here.

This is the Sherman tree which is the biggest tree in the world!! How cool is that!?!

On Sunday we jaunted up to San Francisco for the day and I wore my new Mabel skirt I posted on instagram recently. We hit up good food and coffee at the ferry building, as well as the presidio, the bridge, and more!

I had heard that this was a quick make so I decided to try timing how long it took and was pleasantly surprised that with printing the pattern, cutting fabric, and putting it all together was just a little over an hour! Colette patterns is really rocking the knit patterns these days!

This weekend left me so happy and recharged! Hope yours was just as great!

Do you ever make special things to wear on vacations??
