Friday Feature | Healthy Hits the Spot

Hello & happiest of Fridays! I hope you have had a wonderful first week of June.

Do you remember my Friday Feature series? I know, it’s been a while, but today I am bringing it back with the 10th edition (scroll to the bottom for all FF posts)!

Recently, I’ve been finding myself searching for new healthy living blogs to add to my daily blogroll alongside my tried and true favorites. I discovered Paige’s blog, Healthy Hits the Spot, right around the time I was considering enrolling at IIN. As an IIN graduate herself, with a new and prosperous health coaching business, I was sucked in and wanted to read all about her experiences.

Now Paige’s blog is a source of weekly inspiration to me. Her sweet and honest personality shines through her posts, and I especially enjoy receiving her newsletter with insightful videos in my inbox every Friday.

Paige and I seem to have a couple of other things in common like our extreme Type A/OCD tendencies and our love for Talenti. As I travel through my own IIN journey, I constantly look at Paige as a prime peer example of how I can turn my passion into my career.

Q & A with Paige Burton | Healthy Hits the Spot

1. As a graduate of IIN, what did you enjoy most about your education? What stuck with you the most?

What I most enjoyed about IIN was the upbeat, positive attitude of the teachers. I felt each time I listened to my weekly lectures I grew more into the person I want to be. The Institute for Integrative Nutrition not only taught me how to coach and do it well, but also showed me who I want to be. What stuck with the most were the positive thinking lectures and Geneen Roth’s teaching — she is incredible and I always appreciate her vulnerability.

2. As a certified Holistic Health Coach, what is the best part(s) and most challenge part(s) of your job?

The best part of my job as a Holistic Health Coach is the one-on-one time I get with my clients. I adore them. My clients are my girls — we develop close relationships through our time working together, and that’s the best part. We are partners, and I get to firsthand witness their growth. It’s so incredibly rewarding.

As a Health Coach, there are many challenges you could potentially face: time management; keeping time for yourself; budgeting correctly; scheduling; knowing what to charge; finding clients, and so on. For me, those aren’t the hardest parts. At this point in my career, those areas feel pretty golden.

The most challenging part for me is learning to listen without interruption 100%. I am a good listener, but it takes effort to remain silent while someone is sharing. As a coach, it’s important to be intentional about listening and not rushing to give advice. I do share strategies and ways to grow with my clients, and I think that’s also essential to do as a coach, but I have to be extra intentional about listening. Sometimes I mute my end of the phone to remind myself to wait. That works really well for me since I work with clients via the phone.

3. You are a believer of Intuitive Eating — Where did this stem from and what advice would you give to those interested in IE?

I am definitely a believer in Intuitive Eating. This idea of Intuitive Eating came from the wonderful Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch. I am so honored to say that I’ve actually just begun training with the Evelyn Tribole to further my coaching skills. I am passionate about Intuitive Eating simply because I am passionate about women being able to feel confident, free, and live a joyful life free from obsessing over food/body. I work with all of my clients to become more intuitive, listen to their bodies, and enjoy life more fully.

4. What are five staples that we can always find in your fridge/kitchen?

Five staples that I always keep in my kitchen would be: eggs and sourdough, my green smoothie ingredients, high-quality sea salts, great seasonings, and plenty of veggies to cook with.

5. What are three tips you’d give for enjoying a healthy summer amidst the traveling and BBQ parties?

Three tips I’d give for enjoying a healthy summer would be: stay calm in all situations; have fun and focus more on life and less on food; and lastly, learn how to enjoy YOU. Use this summer as a season to learn to love yourself more.
