Yosemite Adventures II
A better title for this post would have been “Photo Explosion of Half Dome.”
On Saturday, Patrick (a.k.a. “P”) and I went to Yosemite for a day trip. Kind of ironically, we were there exactly one year on October 26 for my inaugural trip to the National Park. Last year, we hiked the Vernal Falls trail and explored the meadows of the valley.
This year, I wanted to try a new trail(s), and that we did. I mistakenly chose the longer (narrow and winding) route to the park, but the anxious drive was well worth it.
P and I hiked to the summit of Sentinel Dome and then to Glacier Point for the views – a butt-burning 5 to 5.5 miles total.
We lucked out with the most incredible, brisk fall weather – a bit breezy, but no complaining here. We were so happy that the rain held out until we returned to the car to head home, phew!

Jeffrey pine on the summit: allegedly the world’s most famous dead tree.
“About the same age as Shakespeare, it’s been photographed thousands of times, but it got its first big break and became a star after it appeared in this 1940 Ansel Adams photo. The tree was killed by drought in 1977, despite attempts to save it by hand-carrying buckets of water up the dome to it, and it finally fell over in 2003.” (source)
