Missguided: BTS tips for students

Hey fashionable friends,
I was asked to be part of Missguided's Back to School Project! I am going to lay down my personal tips and hints regarding fashion and in general for just being a student. I will be a sophomore at University of North Texas, majoring in Fashion Merchandising. Listed down below are some of my tips and tricks to get through the school year!

General Tips: 1. Don't eat out all the time, it get's expensive! Naturally it might seem easy to grab a fast meal between classes or buy Starbucks everyday before your 8am. I know, I've been there! If you have a meal plan, use it to your advantage(you're already paying for it right?). If you have money on your school ID use it sparingly. I had a problem of spending it all on coffee and was SOL towards the end of the semester haha. Also, if your friends invite you to grab a bite you can always split the pay of a larger meal which benefits both of your wallets or you can buy a larger meal and save some for later or the next day. I had this feeling that I was obligated to eat out with my friends all the time because social life right? Although you have to pay attention to what your bank account is saying, just remember that!
2. Use your time wisely. Man, did I learn how to use time management for my first year of college. It may seem that there is not enough time during the day to get everything done. Be sure to plan out your day! Remember that health and grades are the number one priority and then extra-curricular things. The schedule that was most beneficial for me was having class early morning into early afternoon, bust out the books, go to the library and sit in a non-distracting area and study away till dinner time. In between me and Ashley had classes together so it was easy to slip in a 10 min for our blog pictures. We would post on to our blogs only if we had finished what we needed to do for the day/had time.
3. De-stress. Between grades, time management, commitments, and maintaining a social life; college can get pretty stressful. It is oh so important though to not get caught up in the stress because not only is it bad for your health, but can really ruin the enjoyment that college does bring! Be active! Take a yoga class, dance it out, or just hit the gym. For me, working out really helps me "let go" and cuts the stress. Not to mention it's healthy for you, release those toxins in your body. I also find listening to music very therapeutic. I never go anywhere without my headphones.
4. Try to avoid super late nights. Cramming for a test in the morning, or staying up till sunrise for finals can be not as effective as waking up at a good time, studying throughout the day, taking 30 minute breaks in between, and a good nights rest. I found it helpful to plan out my studying times and breaks just to absorb all I've studied. Also, to make sure I completely understand the information I just read about. With study breaks it's good to eat a snack in between or to take a 15 minute walk. When you get back from your break, you might find studying to be easier and not so much of a dread.
5. Get involved. If you have the time in your schedule, it's really beneficial to join some sort of club or organization on your campus. Not only do you meet new people to call your friends, but it'll look great on your resume. It's fun to participate in something you find interest in and can share that common interest with others.

Fashion Tips:
1. Wear comfortable shoes. I used to be huge into wearing heels(i still like heels don't get me wrong) but, when it comes to walking all over campus you need shoes that'll be kind to your feet! There are plenty of different styles of shoes that are stylish and cozy! Shoes that I wore a lot around campus were, vans, converse, short-heeled booties, and combat boots.
2. Carry and good school bag. One of my pet peeves is carrying a lot in my hands while walking to class. Carrying a big enough bag to class that also doesn't put much strain on my shoulder(s) is a must for me. Backpacks and satchels are my bags of choice!
3. Bring a sweater just in case. Some classes/buildings like to crank up the AC, which I don't really mind because I can't stand Texas heat half the time. It's good just to carry one in your bag just in case! Plus, hey it could add a nice amount of texture, print,or color to an outfit.
4. Don't be afraid to be adventurous. With early mornings or a busy schedule one might not want to get "dressed up" or what not for class which hey we've all been there at some point! If you wake up and feel up to it, get creative with your wardrobe! You might spark up a new trend on campus or turn the head of a cute guy or girl, you never know. Whether we like to admit it or not, we base an opinion on a person with our eyes first. Don't be afraid to step outside of the box and remember, Dress the way YOU want to dress.
5. Go Thrift. This goes back to being frugal with money. You guys know that I am a firm believer in thrifting and it is just fun! You get to create a look specifically for you and don't have to worry about someone else rocking the same gear. That's happened to me when I wear Forever21 haha. Also thrifting is great for our environment because re-wearing clothes reduces waste and pollution. Let's help out our planet guys!

I hope these tips and hints were helpful for fellow students. Have a great upcoming school year! xoxo Hope
