MAC Keepsakes/Beige Eyes Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches

MAC Keepsakes/Beige Eyes Eyeshadow Palette

MAC Keepsakes/Beige Eyes Eyeshadow Palette ($39.50 for 0.112 oz.) is one of three, 8-pan eyeshadow palettes for the holidays. It has a neutral theme running through it, and the set of shades runs warm-toned. This palette was the best of the three eyeshadows palettes, though I don’t think it’s great. It’s all right–the shades themselves are more dupable than not, and without superb quality to back them up, it ends up falling in the middle.

Each eyeshadow is 0.014 oz., and even though there are eight of them, it’s noticeably less than past holiday palettes. In 2012 and 2013, they were 0.14 oz., and in 2011, they contained 0.21 oz. while pricing has stayed about the same. This year’s holiday packaging is very plastic-feeling, and the “pearls” that wrap around the palette lift a bit, so I don’t know if this is going to be particularly travel-friendly as far as durability goes. Since they put eight shades into the palette, each pan is on the smaller side, though it fits a MAC 239 and 217 brush comfortably. I do not find the quality of the holiday eyeshadow palettes to be on par with the average full-sized eyeshadow.

Her Mistress is described as a “soft pastel egg (with a Matte finish).” It’s a pale, yellowed beige with a matte finish. It had good color payoff with a soft, blendable texture. See swatches of all dupes / view dupes side-by-side.

Sweet Sovereign is described as a “frosty gold champagne (with a Lustre finish).” It’s a light, golden beige with a frosted, metallic finish. It had decent pigmentation that went on fairly smoothly–it was buildable, at least–and performed better on the lid than the swatch suggested it would. See swatches of all dupes / view dupes side-by-side.

Faire Maiden is described as a “bright coppering gold (with a Lustre finish).” It’s a muted, yellowed gold with copper sparkle. As the Lustre finish might have you expecting, it is semi-opaque with a noticeable sparkle that does fall out over time (and a lot of it never makes it to the lid, as it tends to sit on the surface rather than bind with the eyeshadow color). See swatches of all dupes / view dupes side-by-side.

Tempting is described as a “sinfully rich coco (with a Lustre finish).” It’s a rich, medium-dark golden brown with warm, yellow undertones and a subtle golden sparkle–it’s more of a frost finish than a Lustre one. It is also one of the most pigmented Lustre eyeshadows MAC has out (it is part of the permanent range as well). The sparkle doesn’t stick with the color, but most of it doesn’t apply to the lid so there isn’t much fall out that could occur (but what is there will drop). Omega is described as a “soft muted beige taupe (with a Matte finish).” It’s a medium-dark, warm, dirty taupe with a matte finish. The color payoff was lovely with a really rich, buttery consistency that was a smidgen on the powdery side but really velvety overall. See swatches of all dupes / view dupes side-by-side.

Quintessential is described as a “dirty olive (with a Frost finish).” It’s a golden brown with subtle, warm, olive undertones and a frosted sheen. It had good color payoff that went on smoothly. It was also buildable to a slightly richer, more intense color. It was very blendable. See swatches of all dupes / view dupes side-by-side.

Mystery is described as a “muted plum brown (with a Satin finish).” It’s a dark brown with subtle warm undertones and a satin finish. It had semi-sheer color payoff with a drier, stiffer consistency. See swatches of all dupes / view dupes side-by-side.

Night Whisper is described as a “rich black brown (with a Velvet finish).” It’s a blackened brown with subtle,w arm undertones and a semi-matte finish. There’s a barely-there shimmer in the pan, but once applied, it looks mostly matte. It had decent pigmentation, but the texture was stiff and harder to blend. (Note, the press release listed this as a Veluxe Pearl finish, but the back of the palette says (V) which indicates Velvet as (VXP) is typically used to denote Veluxe Pearl, and the finish in real life doesn’t look anything like a Veluxe Pearl finish!)
