Spring fever!

It’s February. It has been one of the coldest winters on record. Mother Nature has been dumping sizable amounts of snow on us regularly and a blizzard is in the immediate forecast. Old Man Winter seems to have settled in for the long haul.

And then, a glimmer of hope. One 40°F day with sunshine and some surprise visitors.

I am an avid bird watcher. So when dozens of Cedar Waxwings suddenly appear outside my office window, you can bet all work stops and I run for my camera.

These guys stop by my place every year during their migration, to drink the water from the melting snow on my flat roofs. They are a delight to watch and a welcomed sight in the dulls of winter.

Speaking of a welcomed sight…

I was even more surprised to spot an American Robin hanging out in my trees. Several even!

If that does not get you excited for the arrival of spring nothing will.

They are one of the first birds to arrive and a sure sign that warmer weather is on the horizon. Hard to believe when the Governor declares a state of emergency for an impending blizzard on the same day.

There is an old saying that snow must be spotted three times on a robin’s back before spring will arrive. One down, two to go. Bring on the snow!

Never fear, spring is near!

What are sure signs of spring in your neck of the woods?
