Maybelline Fit Me Shine Free Stick Foundation: Review, Swatches, Photos

A while ago Maybelline introduced a new revolutionary foundation cleverly called Fit Me. This liquid foundation received mixed reviews. With half loving it and the other half including me not loving it. Check out my video review here.

Well recently Maybelline got back in the lab and created, the first gel stick foundation. Fit Me Shine Free Stick Foundation, ($8.99 for.32oz) available in 12 shades is said to be oil-free, lightweight and most importantly convenient. These chubby tubes have an interesting design. The outer portion of the product is the gel foundation wrapped around an anti-shine core. Lightweight powders in the anti-shine core are said to instantly dissolve excess oil to prevent shine. Because of my dislike for the original Fit Me foundation, I was a bit apprehensive about trying this out.

I choose shade 355 (Coconut) to try out and upon at home inspection found that this shade was a hint to red for me. Shade 340 (Cappuccino) may have worked better but it appeared a hint to light. So right off the back without even trying the product. I began to deduct points for color selection. I hate having to buy two shades to match my own. I recently saw on Maybelline’s website that the original Fit Me line has introduced four new shades for women of color and I hope they do the same for these stick foundations.

Using stick foundation is super easy and what I liked most about this one was that it wasn’t dry upon contact. Some stick foundations are very dense, hard and dry to apply but, this one glided over the skin seamless. Its texture is creamy and ultra lightweight making it easy to blend out. The coverage is light and can be built up to medium finish. Even when the foundation is built up to a medium finish, I saw that it didn’t cover all my blemishes/dark spots so concealer will be needed if you have a stubborn blemish or marks to cover. I noticed after apply and blending out the foundation over my face that it never really settled onto my skin. It just felt like it was sitting on top of my face which was my issue with the liquid version. I waited about a half hour to see if the product had settled any and it had but just a hint. I personally think one of the revolutionary ingredients mixed in, doesn’t agree with my normal to dry skin because, after about 2 hours of wear. I was scared to touch my face for fear that there would have excessive product transfer. I will say that though I felt the product would transfer like crazy, my skin didn’t feel oily or wet and was shine free, if that makes any kind of sense.

Overall, I’m impressed with the formulation of this foundation. The product is packaged well and the anti-shine core is pretty genius. It’s lightweight and blends seamlessly. However, I was a bit disappointed with the color selection. Yes 12 shades is a lot for a drugstore brand but, I still think that persons with ultra light and dark shades are left out or have to buy two and three shades to get the correct color. I also didn’t like the way the product just felt like it was sitting on top of my skin. I tried it without a finishing powder and would highly suggest one for those with oily skin. I definitely think that if you are in the market to try a new foundation or you are a foundation junkie like me, you should give this a try.
