MAC Archie’s Girl Collection: Review, Swatches, Photos

On January 31st, MAC launched the highly anticipated Archie’s Girl Collection. If you don’t know who Archie and his girls are click here for a little history lesson. Well Betty and Veronica two women after Archie’s heart who have two totally different styles have been brought to life via makeup. This huge collection is divided down the middle with Betty and Veronica having their own color stories.

Products marked with ** were provided to me by the manufacturer or their PR company for consideration, For more information please visit my Disclaimer Tab.

Kiss & Don’t Tell Lip Glass ($16.50 for 0.17 oz.) is described as a bright coral cream. It also has a hint of pink thrown in making this color a lot more wearable for deeper skin-tones. This lip glass is opaque but has a jelly transparency to it. It did settled into my fine lines but, when used as a topper over lipstick didn’t separate or feather. It wore for about 4 hours before reapplication was needed.

MAC Daddy’s Little Girl Lipstick ($16.50 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a mid-tone pink violet with a satin finish. This color in my opinion isn’t totally unique as I know there is a MAC lipstick similar. But this is a color that confirms my belief that MAC makes some of the best lipsticks around. This color applies nice and evenly, it is creamy, highly pigmented, and stains a hint. It wore for well over 6 hours before a minor touch up was needed.

** Ronnie Red Lipstick ($16.50 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a bright red with a matte finish. This blue-based lipstick is creamy and comfortable. For this to be a matte it didn’t tug or pull on my lips. It applied evenly, and had high color saturation. With most red mattes by MAC this color wore for hours and hours before needing a touch up.

**Flatter Me Pearlmatte ($30.00 for 0.35 oz.) is described as a “golden peach base with coral hearts.” The base color is MAC’s Shell Pearl Beauty Powder, which is soft peach with a slight frosted finish . The hearts are Foolish Me Powder Blush (discontinued) which is a pink-coral with a subtle golden sheen. This powder is so pretty I almost didn’t want to use it. This product is like getting the best of both worlds. Let me tell you why, I’ve had MAC’s Shell Pearl Beauty Powder on this imaginary “must try” list for a long time. This color offers a nice subtle sheen to the cheeks and face. It was a hint powdery but, once on the skin it didn’t look that way at all. The coral hearts are a discontinued blush that I wanted for a very long time. It wasn’t until maybe a year ago that my dear friend gave me one of her back ups of it. It is a very pretty blush that is coral with a gorgeous golden shimmer but, the hearts of this powder yield nothing that the original blush does. It took me a minute to even notice that coral color payoff. This powder may also be harder for deeper skin tones to pull off as it can appear ashy depending on the application.

Spoiled Rich Eyeshadow Palette ($44.00 for 0.19 oz.) contains four shades:

Pin-Up Purple is described as a mid-tone orchid with a frost finish.
Spoiled Rich is described as a rich purple with a frost finish.
Ron Ron Run is a deep navy blue with a satin finish.
Gravel is described as a deep charcoal grey with a matte finish.
This quad has a nice blend of textures. However , they don’t maneuver well. Pin-Up Purple states it’s a frost but, I see no frost in this shadow it looks and feels more like a satin. It applied nice and smoothly and had decent color pay-off. Spoiled Rich is also listed as a frost but, works more like a matte. It had OK coverage but, requires packing on. Ron Ron Run is listed as a satin but, works like a dry matte. This shadow was stiff and splotchy. And lastly Gravel is a listed as a matte and it is just that but it’s too dry. It requires heavy packing on but, because it is also very powdery means you have soft washes of colors instead of full on color. I’m not a huge fan of MAC pre-made quads anymore because I find the cost for the quality is always off.
