A Bashmati Twist in Fuzio Bar & Restaurant, Kuala Lumpur

A unique Italian experience using Jasmine Basmathi Extra Long Rice.
I had the pleasure of dining in a lovely Italian Bar & Ristorante in the heart of Kuala Lumpur for a special menu using Jasmine's Pusa Hold Basmathi Extra Long Rice to create Italian dishes. It was interesting and creative for lil' me to be able to witness such concoctions in cozy restaurant with a traditional Italian ambiance. Warm and welcoming, definitely not going to be the first and last time I be here.

Basmathi Extra Long Rice in Italian cooking?
Now what? Basmathi extra long rice in Italian cooking. How does that work?!. It's not impossible as I discovered today at Fuzio Bar & Restaurant. A group of us were teased and tantalized in arrays of elements fusing the Basmathi extra long rice with Italian cooking. I couldn't stop taking photographys with my iPhone 5s and have selected few photographs to show how wonderful the dinner was.

Jasmine Pusa Gold 1121 Basmathi Extra Long Rice is one of the longest grain rice in the world. The attributes to the rice makes it a delicious food. It's not sticky and can absorb the flavors in dishes to create a robust experience. This rice can be used for home cooking, parties and restaurants. The rice itself has light texture, I find myself savoring each bite in my mouth and wishing there's more.

Here's a glimpse of the menu:

Starter Arancini (Rice Ball)
Main Course Angus Beef Tenderloin
Braised Lamb Shank
Marinara in White Wine Sauce
Marinara in Tomato Base
Baked Cod Fish
Spring Chicken
Spicy Oxtail
Dessert
Mango Crisp
starter - Arancini (Rice Ball)
The first dish I sample was a starter called Arancini. This is my first time being introduce to an Italian snack in the form of a rice ball. Usually risotto is used but in this case, the dish is prepared with Basmathi extra long rice with a gooey mozzarella center. The "rice ball" is coated in golden crumbs, crispy on the outside, light fragrant glassy rice inside. The rice is dry, and that's not bad at all because I love them that way.
main course - Spring Chicken

Next came the main course, which if you look back at the menu I listed there would be seven dishes in total. All these dishes originally used risotto but is now replaced with the use of Jasmine Basmathi Extra Long Rice, customized or let's just say localized to suit the each unique dishes prepared here today. For instance the Spring Chicken originally stuffed with Porcini Risotto but now using Basmathi extra long rice instead. While the chicken is tender and juicy, the rice soaked up the essence of the chicken and Porcini (mushroom) and the scent just melts in your mouth. This time the rice was soft and fat with flavors.
the rice inside the Spring Chicken :)
main course - Braised Lamb Shank
Next came the succulent Braised Lamb Shank. Everyone was just waiting to dig into this one. The lamb was braised along with aromatic vegetables, red wine and tomatoes. Again the rice originally would be Porcini Risotto but is now made with Basmathi rice. I felt the rice was sticky, plump and fragrant, making it a good combination with the soft tender meat of the lamb.
main course - Angus Beef Tenderloin
I just can't forget the taste of the deliciously tender and juicy Angus Beef Tenderloin. Medium rare, cook to perfection. The flavors just burst in my open. Eaten with the Basmathi rice, it's nature of retaining it's form, where each grain can be savor with a refreshingly uplighting hint of lemongrass. I could eat the rice everyday if I want to. I didn't try to bag of mushrooms so I could't comment on it.
main course - Spicy Oxtail

Another favourite of mine, the Spicy Oxtail soup. The portion is small but I got to try one piece which was so soft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am in love with it. The same rice served with Angus Beef Tenderloin is served with this dish too, which makes is a A plus because I really love the Basmati rice cooked this way. I would come again just to savor the entire dish by myself.

main course - Baked Cod Fish
Cod Fish baked with teriyaki sauce, chickpea, and young papaya salad. This was the most memorable dish for me as it was simple, yet satisfying and big on flavor. The cod fish just melts in my mouth with the sweet taste of teriyaki. The Basmathi rice used, made me feel this dish was a fusion between Asia and Italy.

main course - Marinara in Tomato Base

main course - Marinara in White Wine Sauce
served with steamed Basmathi extra long rice
You would think there would be pasta with the dishes. I did not get to sample the two dishes here but from what I know, my friends said it was good and they have finished it all along with the steam Basmathi rice. Among all the dishes, this one compared looks plain by itself even when it's served in a capsicum. It's deliberately prepared this way so one can savor the flavorful soups and taste the unified whole of the dish.
dessert - Mango Crisp

Not usually on their menu, this dessert was specially prepared with Basmathi rice in the form of fried Mango covered with a crust of breadcrumbs and rice as the base. Like a modern twist of Mango Sticky Rice, you have here a fried Mango sticky rice dessert with vanilla bean gelato on top of a bed of nuts. Drizzle with strawberry sauce, the sweet taste of Mango turn savory in my mouth. The vanilla gelato gave a delightful creamy and crunchy sensation when eaten together. Definitely a unique way to present Basmathi rice in a form of a dessert! Bravo.
a new twist on Mango Sticky Rice (spot the Basmathi rice there?)
I know the food looks delicious here and Bene they are delicious actually. I didn't know one could alter a dish or say localized it by switching the rice used to create another to pair with. I'm throughly impressed with the Jasmine Pusa 1211 (AAA Top Grade) Basmathi Extra Long Rice and still in love with how it can be cooked with lemongrass to create such an interesting light flavor. The rice itself is aromatic already and soft and fluffy. I can prepare this at home but I won't be as good as the chefs at Fuzio Bar & Restaurant, Kuala Lumpur.
