Clé de Peau BEAUTÉ Brightening Enhancer Base & Powder Foundation

Previously introduced in this post — today, I have a full review of both Clé de Peau BEAUTÉ Brightening Enhancer Base & Powder Foundation for you.

  • Brightening Enhancer Base – S$105 (30ml, made in Japan)
  • Brightening Powder Foundation – S$150 refill (11g, made in Japan)
  • Brightening Powder Foundation Case - S$50
  • Brightening Powder Foundation Sponge – S$11

A quick recap on the products, the Brightening Enhancer Base increases skin’s clarity for smoother, more beautiful makeup application and the Powder Foundation has unprecedented optical technology for radiant skin that looks as though it’s never been touched by the sun.

PACKAGING

The Brightening Enhancer Base comes in a pearlized white, oval palm size plastic bottle with a screw on cap. In the bottle, there’s (what I assume) a ball mechanism which helps shake up the contents for a more refined texture.

Despite the fluidity of this base, I had no problems with dispensing from the bottle — I was able to control the amount needed each time as well.

On the other hand, the Powder Foundation is sold as a refill. The luxe pearlized white compact you see above is at a separate cost. Pan of the powder is magnetic and snaps right into the compact — nice and sturdy with no worries of dropping.

Clé de Peau BEAUTÉ makes one of the most luscious velvety pouches in the market.

And the pearlized white packaging of this new brightening range looks very elegant and sophisticated — especially the compact with gold trimmings. I like the size of it, very handy and convenient for makeup pouches on-the-go.

SHADE, TEXTURE & FORMULA

The Brightening Enhancer Base comes in one universal shade. It’s very lightweight and watery in terms of consistency but it doesn’t drip. The texture is light and smooth, easily blends into the skin with minimum effort.

Formulation of this base seems to provide a semi-matte, luminous finish to the skin. I also feel that it contains certain oil/shine control properties.

I was matched to a O20 for the Powder Foundation and it’s the perfect match for me. I like how this shade blends well with the colour of my neck and chest. Texture of this powder foundation is very finely milled, smooth and luxe.

Although it’s in powder form, it doesn’t look or feel powdery on the skin and it doesn’t enhance dryness. It provides natural, luminous and flawless results which I much adore.

COVERAGE & LONGEVITY

The Brightening Enhancer Base alone does not provide much coverage (see pictures directly above and below for comparison). It helps even out my skin tone, reduces the appearances of pores, dark spots, imperfections and redness by say 20% or so?

For those with good skin, you may be able to wear this base on its own and enjoy it. For me, I definitely need to apply a proper base over.

On the other hand, coverage for the Powder Foundation is superb — depending on application method and desired level of coverage, this foundation can provide anything from sheer to medium to full without caking at all. The trick is to fully buff foundation into the skin layer by layer to build the coverage you want.

Together with the Brightening Enhancer Base, this foundation wears very well even in our hot, humid country.

APPLICATION

I like to apply the Brightening Enhancer Base like a skincare product. I squeeze a decent amount of product onto my palms, warm product up between both palms and gently press onto skin from center of the face.

It doesn’t take long for the base to settle on the skin. I tend to apply the Powder Foundation right after I apply my base when the base is still slightly moist. The moist base helps powder to adhere onto the skin better and helps to blend pigments more evenly.

I have tried using several different brushes to apply this foundation and here are a few I prefer — Hakuhodo G5556 (featured in the pictures above) provides a sheer, natural finish; you can always build up by layering with this brush but for a higher coverage, I would use brushes like — Hakuhodo G543 or Koyudo 02 which are denser and fuller.

Pictured below is a thin layer of Powder Foundation, applied with Hakuhodo G5556 and a layer of Brightening Enhancer Base underneath. No concealer, no other makeup — only lip balm and eyelash extensions I did a while ago.

OVERVIEW

Clé de Peau BEAUTÉ is no doubt a prestige brand that makes some of the finest products with luscious textures. I personally own a handful of their base products and I must say both the Brightening Enhancer Base & Powder Foundation are one the most impressive amongst the rest.

If you are looking for a little indulgence, I would highly recommend the Powder Foundation as it’s such a comprehensive and versatile product. The formula and pigments provide a nice contouring effect on the face — it catches light and photographs beautifully.

On the other hand, at the price of S$105, the Brightening Enhancer Base may not be something I would spurge on personally but I can’t deny I love the luminosity it provides — the glow is as if from within my skin.

Thank you for looking.
