STYLE PROFILE-Beauty Vlogger Claire Ashley
Today's style profile features beauty expert and my friend Claire Ashley. Claire is an online beauty vlogger with a YouTube channel teaching women about makeup through step-by-step tutorials and in depth product reviews. She also has a blog, Ultimakeover, which is another online destination for discussing beauty topics, including hair and fashion.
I have the pleasure of working with Claire at the Creative Collective work studio and she is seriously one of the sweetest people ever. If you haven't already be sure to check out Claire's amazing hair and makeup tutorials on YouTube. This week I am looking forward to trying out Claire's
1. What does a typical day look like for you?
It starts with hitting the snooze button one too many times then sitting up and scrolling through my Instagram feed. My dog Skeeter usually gets his long walk next, which gets my endorphins going early in the day. I film my beauty tutorials mid morning since outdoor lighting dictates a lot of my filming schedule and that’s when it’s the best! My afternoons are spent editing my videos with a cup of tea – it’s my favorite time of day to see my work come to life. I also respond to emails and video comments any free moment throughout the day to stay engaged with my viewers. I like to unplug my day by cooking and maybe painting my nails or doing a DIY facemask with a good TV show on in the background. 2. How would you describe your personal style?
All over the place! One day I’ll look like a character from the little house on the prairie, then the next day I’ll be in a kimono with a topknot bun. It depends on my mood and I like to try different looks, but it’s all done with a comfortable touch! 3. What are your favorite items in your wardrobe and why?
I own a black Prada bag that was my mother’s for a very long time so it’s oversized and amazing, but also very sentimental. My other go-to favorite piece is a pair of very oversized gold earrings --they make me feel glamorous no matter what. Pretty much the key theme to my wardrobe is oversized everything.
4. Do you have any style or beauty secrets to share?
As far as style, invest in the quality pieces. It’s hard to bite the bullet to buy something nice with a high price tag, but I’ve learned that quality over quantity really is the truth. As far as beauty, always wear a primer. On your eyes and on your face, the secret to making makeup show up and lasting all day is with a good primer. It’s an extra step that I promise is worth it!!
5. How do you spend your "me" time?
I go hiking by myself a lot. I grew up in the woods and near a lot of hiking trails so it’s always been my favorite way to spend my “me” time. I’ll sometimes go up to four times a week when the weather is nice! If I’m inside, it’s with a cup of tea and trying to plan for my next travel getaway… 6. What is the most important thing you have learned through running your own business?
Surround yourself with people you can learn from. Since it’s only you in your business it’s inevitable you’re going to hit roadblocks in your career. Keep your ears and eyes open when meeting others and act like a sponge from other people’s success’s to better your own. Oh, and always to be kind to everyone you meet!
7. What is your mantra?
Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.
