Vanity Fair // 3 Beautifully Smooth Bras + Women Who Do

The way my bra fits and how it looks under clothing, is everything. No matter how pretty it is, if it’s not comfortable or if it makes my chest look funny in a shirt, it’s not even an option. In most circumstances, I’d say that my bra is the most important part of my outfit.

That said, it also must be noted that AS SOON as I get home, it’s the first thing that comes off,

Flashdance style, right under my shirt and through my sleeve. Because no matter how comfortable a bra is, the freedom of not having to wear one at home is complete freedom, especially after my bra has done its job all day.

A few months ago I partnered with Vanity Fair for their “Women Who Do” Initiative, a powerfully uplifting campaign dedicated to celebrating the everyday triumphs of women everywhere, and they sent me a few of the same bras that they donate in the Dress for Success partnership and LiftTour to try out.

Already a fan of Vanity Fair bras, I was happy to accept and share with you these favorites below, photographed around my home office sitting area {and my actual bra drawer up top – though it must also be noted that the bras that are on heavy rotation usually just hang from doorknobs around my office/dressing areas}.

The Beauty Back

What’s rad about this bra particularly is the back smoothing design that reduces the appearance of back bulge -or back fat as I like to refer to it, which drives me nuts in tight shirts. Though it’s a tad more coverage than I usually like in a bra, it’s super simple and pretty and completely invisible under clothes.

Secret Lace

This Next to Nude bra really feels like I’m wearing nothing at all. It must be due to its weightless design and lightweight fabric and like the Beauty Back, is also seamless under clothes. I’m usually drawn to black bras, and love a little lace detail that doesn’t distort the look of my shirt on top, so if I’d have to pick a fave, this one would be it.

Beautifully Smooth

I really love the look of the smooth print detailing of this bra, which has a zebra-like effect, and the silky gray is the prettiest of all. I’ve never had a gray bra, and this one is seamless like the others, as well as perfect for all day comfort.

Since finding the perfect bra is nearly as challenging as finding the perfect swimsuit {apparently four out of five women wear the wrong-size bra!!}, here’s a little Q&A guide I found at Nordstrom to help us all out.

Does the band ride up your back?
If yes, your bra is either too large or needs to be tightened. If it’s still too loose after you’ve adjusted the band, it’s time to go down a band size (and possibly up a cup).

Does your breast tissue spill over or bulge under the cup?
If yes, your cups are too small and you need to go up a cup size.

Do the cups pucker or gap?
If your breasts don’t fill out the cups, your bra is too large.

Do your straps slip and slide?
If you’ve adjusted your straps and they still fall off, either the band is too big or your bra has lost its elasticity. If you have sloped shoulders, opt for a racerback bra or a style with convertible straps.

Do your straps dig into your shoulders?
If so, try loosening the straps. If that doesn’t solve the problem, it’s likely the cups are too small and you need to go up a cup size.

Does the wire poke and prod?
If so, you’re wearing a cup size that’s too small.
