Birthday Celebration

Are birthdays a big deal in your house? When children are little every milestone seems like a major celebration. As time passes, not so much. As life gets busier, we don’t always make the time to celebrate. My daughter and I recently celebrated her Sweet 16 by a trip to San Francisco (you can read about it HERE) but on the actual day I wanted to do something a little special. We had a birthday breakfast, but this could easily work for a meal at any other time of the day. As I looked in my basement and pulled out our birthday celebration items (besides the food, the only items purchased were the balloons – which having purchased the night before we hid until morning), I realized just how many things we already had to help make the celebration special. I dug out plates, a banner, vases – things I haven’t used in ages. Bringing out items that we don’t normally use and nestling them all together made for a very special morning. She was quite surprised at what greeted her as she awoke. It was just the family, small but sweet.

A very old crown found in storage. It’s been a long time since she was a Barbie Girl.

I always used to put this on our front door when the children were little. It was fun to bring it out again and let the whole neighborhood know we were celebrating.

Just remember, no matter the age or the sex, we all need to be loved and cherished. Celebrate those around you!
