Let’s Eat Some Chocolate: The Best Chocolate in Belgium

There is one thing that most of us just cannot live without and while that may be sex for men, for women it is all about the chocolate. And where better is there to experience some of the world’s finest chocolates than in Brussels, Belgium, the world’s capitol for chocolate. My suggestion is to simply eat your way around the city, one chocolate store at a time, sampling a praline here, a nougat there…. but if you are pressed for time, you may need to know where to find the best chocolate in Belgium … STAT.

My husband took a trip to Brussels recently and though I typically do not make shopping demands when he travels, this time I made myself very clear, “Don’t come home without the chocolate.” A girl has to stand up for something every now and then, right? Well, a man does not stay married for 15 years without occasionally listening and don’t feel sorry for him for even one second, what with his beastly, demanding wife waiting at home with her foot tapping and hand extended. His eyes lit up like it was Christmas when he realized that I had now given him the greatest of excuses to visit all of the chocolate shops in Belgium, searching for the perfect box for his poor wife who was left behind to tend to the house and the children.

After thoroughly taste testing, all of which was obviously done in an orderly and scientific manner, with absolutely no ripping of packages or ravenous inhaling, of course, we narrowed our favorites. The kids all preferred Neuhaus chocolates that were milky and creamy, but Jack and I hid the Pierre Marcolini chocolates after one bite. There is no way a kid could possibly appreciate chocolate that rich and dark… but we weren’t taking any chances.
