Ikea Hack :: Photo Backdrop + Lack Table with Farrow & Ball

What if I told you that you could create an inexpensive and beautiful backdrop for your styled photos and/or create a table in a few quick and easy steps? It may sound too good to be true, but the kind folks at Farrow and Ball sent over some paint for us to try out our idea and even we were a bit surprised to discover just how easy this Ikea Hack is to create.

First, you will need an Ikea Lack Table. These are one of the least expensive tables out there, but the lines are great and even though it has a lacquered finished top, you can still paint it.

In order for the paint to adhere properly, prime the table with one to two coats of primer. If you are painting a darker color, consider choosing a dark, high quality primer.

Next paint one to two coats of paint, allowing the paint to dry completely in between coats.

What is so great about this technique is that it can be applied to any table, so if you need a larger backdrop you can purchase a larger piece like the Lack Coffee Table.

I don’t need a coffee table at the moment, so I simply unscrewed the legs from the tops and have them stored close by my work area in my studio so they are ready to go whenever I need them!

Now that I have realized that I can pretty much paint any of my IKEA furniture with a good coat of primer first, I’m dreaming up what I might do next! Thank you again to Farrow and Ball for partnering with us!
