From the studio: the story of weddings

Hi, this is Jack dropping by for a visit. This past weekend Tina and I were photographing a wedding in Greenville, SC and on the drive back to Atlanta we were reflecting on our journey as photographers. We’ve been shooting for a few years now and we’re at the place where the technical aspects come easier but we’re trying define our voice as photographers. We were enjoying our Starbucks in the car and discussing what it is that we love about the various subjects we photograph. Tina and I both enjoy working together but we also enjoy shooting different subjects. Tina loves shooting spaces and places and is incredibly gifted at styling. I love photographing people….it doesn’t matter if it’s portraits, weddings or head shots. And we both really enjoy fashion….which combines our gifts. As we drove home we realized that the common denominator in our photography is a passion for story.

The thing we love so much about editorial shoots is that there’s a strong sense of story in the photos. When we meet someone that we’re going to photograph we immediately start asking questions and every time we discover a beautiful story waiting to be told. Maybe it’s the story of a young entrepreneur starting her first business or the young family living as expats or the sweet couple dreaming of a new life together….but it’s always the story that captivates us.

Tina and I are still growing as photographers. We both devour inspiration on a daily basis and talk about this stuff constantly and the reason we feel so compelled to grow and develop as photographers is simple….the story we tell deserves our best. What we’re learning along the way is about more than taking pictures and it’s definitely more than technical camera settings. What we’re learning is that as we discover our own story, we can help others tell their own…or even clarify their own story.

This is a really exciting time for us, filled with endless curiosity and a sense of constant discovery. We hope to start sharing more stories than ever before and, we hope, to inspire you and those around us to live the greatest story possible.
